I am wondering if anyone has an opinion on this piano? Is Heintzman from Canada a reasonable piano manufacture? Seems like an great price at 45". It is located about 70 miles away. Is this piano worth the drive to see and play? If I make the trip and it sounds OK, do you think it worth the fee to pay a PTG tech to check it out? Thanks ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ Heintzman Piano -- Make Offer! - $699 This piano was purchased new in 1983; has been in the same home for 26 years. Heintzman & Co. had a small scale operation at that time here in Canada. The company then was owned by the furniture maker Sklar- Pepplar. It is a good buy at that price if everything checks out with your technician of choice. I would call one to have a look. Most likely a good tuning or two, cleaning and some voicing.

The Heintzman company made excellent pianos in the early to mid 20th century. Your vintage has almost nothing in common with those fine old instruments. I would be very suspect of the model you are considering, but you may want to take a good look at the piano. I hope that helps.

I have a late model Gerhard Heintzman consol that is probably similar to what you're looking at. These pianos do not have particularly long life spans - I'm in the process of replacing mine....

The Gerhard Heintzman has nothing to do with the above Heintzman console. That Heintzman is a solid piano.

Gerhard Heintzman was the nephew of Theodore Heintzman the original founder of the Heintzman Piano Company. He was actually a cabinet maker first, but crossed over to building pianos when it was popular to do so in Canada in the late 1800’s and the early part of the last century.
The Gerhard Heintzman was a line of instruments taken over by the Heintzman Company after 1927 when Gerhard Heintzman passed.
They continued to use the name up into the 1970’s. Very much the same story as the Nordheimer line of pianos, this name was used to create a more moderate quality and priced instruments.
As Steve has stated, both the Nordheimer and the Gerhard line bear no resemblance in quality to the Heintzman & Co. line with the exception of the fact they are all pianos.
Not much is known about Gerhard Heintzman, even when I have asked the surviving family members about him.
There is absolutely no reason to be suspect of this instrument at all. After you have had a good look perhaps then you will hire a technician to have a close look too. After all, the technician will know what to look for.
