Looking to surprise my wife with a Yamaha grand for her 50th bday. I have found a 2006 C2 in mint condition and a 1987 ("gray") C5, also in excellent condition. Both from local, reputable dealers. The C5 has been owned locally since 1994. Both pianos reasonably and comparably priced. Any guidance?

You will probably want to re-post this in the main piano forum (not faq sub-forum). you will get more replies.

The answer will depend a lot on the condition of the instruments. Owners often don’t have a good knowledge of the instrument’s condition, so don’t take their word that the instrument is ‘like new.’

Will the piano be played?

You will want to have a piano technician (hired by you and who has no relationship with the seller) look at the instruments. But if the instruments are both indeed in excellent condition, the C5 will probably sound somewhat better (it is 6’7”). The C2 is 5’8”. However, if you’ve got a smaller space, the C2 may work better for you.
