Hello, I was looking to upgrade from my Yamaha P-45. I was looking at the Kawai CA49 and it looks pretty promising. Should I get something different? I don't know much about pianos. I would like what's best for my budget of 3000$.

Can you try them out yourself at a store within a short drive. The CA49 is a nice piano IMHO. Also maybe look at Yamaha CLP745.

Do you think it's worth 2800$? Do the keys feel close to an acoustic piano? I have never used anything other than my P-45 and don't know what real pianos feel like. And yes, I will be going this weekend to try it out at a store.

My opinion on the matter is that pretty much all of the Digital Piano in the mid-tier and up would be fine for you. Each individual is different and what I might like you might find to heavy or too light of an action. For example I'm one that really likes the Roland PHA-50 action. If the dealer has multiple acoustic pianos from different manufacturers give them a try to. The reason being you will find that acoustic pianos all have different actions to and you will have to learn to adjust the to piano you are playing smile

Also I did like the Kawai action on the CN49 and CA99 when I tried them. Unless you are really an advanced player I don't think you can go wrong with your budget.

Consider also three "slab pianos":

Roland FP-90x

Yamaha P515

Kawai ES920

Your budget will cover a pair of powered monitor speakers, if their built-in amps and speakers are inadequate.

If there are some acoustic pianos in the store, go back and forth between them and the DP 's.

If you have headphones, bring them.

YES! Bring you own headphones.

Slab pianos are a good option to consider.

What is it about your P-45 that you're unhappy with, and what are your plans for lessons or additional skill development?

Try some better acoustic upright and grand pianos while you're shopping, to help develop a reference point.
