Anyone know about Sangler & Sohne vertical pianos ? According to a decal on one I pitch raised and tuned today it was made in the European Community and assembled in the Netherlands. A dozen of the hammer return springs where broken and it needs regulation. Could not find a serial number on the plate but the last several hammers had 696677 stamped in sequence. All of the hammer heads had numbers stamped on them but after 28 the numbers where all off. Assembled by robots ?

The Sanglers I know of were routed through the Netherlands with the bulk of their work performed in Russia or Poland. (I don't quite remember, but one of those countries known for bad pianos)

THEY ARE CHEAP PIANOS. THEY ARE MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY WHO MAKES SCHUBERTS AND BECKER. I DO A LOT OF WORK FOR A DEALER HERE IN dENVER THAT HANDLES THEM. I HATE THEM.

Thanks for the responses. How do you guys fix broken hammer return springs on these gems ?
There is no rail and they use the silk cord loop on the hammer butt flange. I took out a sample hammer and the supply house told me that Kimball Schwander springs might work . Are they right or do I need to get new hammer butts- if so what type and where from ? Thanks.

I would try the Schwander springs. It's a lot easier than replacing the butt. There probably won't be to much of a difference. It might be difficult to find the right size cord for the springs, though. If you can't find it, try ripping some key bushing cloth into a narrow strip, but thick enough to stay put.

How do you get the tension in or out of the Schwander springs ? I got some today but the holes to keep them in place are on the left side. It appears that the only way I can get any tension in the new springs is to drill holes on the right side of the mortise and maybe use a drop of CA glue. Any tips ? Tnanks

As I recall, the tail of the spring just rests on the butt. The business end will then be at about a 45 degree angle from the hammer shank. That should be sufficient tension.

If the piano is under 10 years old I think the issue is one of warranty. I think the distributor was North American Music. I would find out who distributed the piano and stick them with the problems.
