Hey!

I found this little piece and thought I would play it, as it looked simple. In fact, it wasn't that simple to play well - though I promised myself to make one-day recording, so I did.

So, opening the first 2009 piano bar, here it is smile

It's great to hear you know Ouran as well! I loved its calm and happy plot, and the soundtrack is wonderful. I am working on some more from Ouran - but the rest is not for one day learning, so it will take a little smile

Warning/disclaimer: This song contains strings, so you may want to avoid listening if you have an aversion to them. laugh

Mati, Very nicely done. If only life itself were that peaceful and serene!

Elssa, very nice, it really brought back old memories. I was about to rehash them, when I remembered I had written a post about this song several months ago, here:

http://www.pianoworld.com/ubb/ubb/ultimatebb.php?/topic/32/6634/2.html#000041

Very nice ending!

I have been playing around with quartal (fourth-based) chords. They make great arpeggios. Some of them have a kind of mysterious air to them which reminded me of A Flower Is a Lovesome Thing, by Billy Strayhorn, so I decided to try them out on this song and record it, even though I have done the song previously. Here it is:

Elssa, loved that piece! It truly does rekindle a lot memories as you listen to it!

Ed, It really does have a mysterious tone to it, but I love the atmosphere this song brings about. Seems perfect for something like relaxing in a jazz bar!

Anyways, here's my little addition to the bar. It's a piece from the anime Bleach, entitled "Here to Stay." It's a fairly simple piece, but I love it's calming effect. Hope you all enjoy!

Here to Stay

EDIT: Oh yea, forgot about the String usage warning! lol!

Thanks for the warning, but I enjoy your playing so much that I am willing to endure the strings. laugh This was one of my favorite songs when I was a kid. There is a rather odd story behind my enjoyment thereof. My Mom had bought a new Lincoln in, I think 1970. The car came equipped with a new-fangled 8-track tape player and a tape called "Ford Family of Fine Music." For quite awhile it was the only tape we had, so we listened to it over and over again. This song was on it, and I became quite attached to the piece.

I told you it was an odd story. eek

At any rate, great job. I enjoyed listening. The strings really did not bother me on this one for some reason.

Ed, I really enjoyed your new version of A Flower is a Lovesome Thing. I probably mentioned this last time, but I have an old album entitled Intimate Ellington on which he plays with a small combo rather than the big band, and this is one of my favorites from that album. Fun story about Those Were the Days, too.

On the anime theme I recently uploaded quite a bit of material from anime series, mostly "Honey and Clover", all the videos are on my youtube account. I suggest "Waltz", which is my favourite (and incidentally is not a waltz).

By the way I recently composed my first song (as in vocal composition), and it is actually sung by a software instrument. I think the voice is quite realistic. It's here . Lyrics are from a classical Japanese poem.

sorry, piano4, that still doesn't work. When you are viewing the video, perhaps you could click in the address box (the long white space near the top of your browser. If you right click there and select copy from the dropdown menu, then you could right click while posting and select paste from that dropdown menu. This would give you an accurate copy of the URL rather than trying to type it in which is pretty tricky to get right.

I was recently playing thru some old stuff in Alfred 2 at the end of a practice session & ran across this fun piece that I rermember enjoying a lot way back when I first worked on it . . .

But I played around with it, modified and extended it, torqued up the tempo slightly and hopefully enhanced it a little overall . . .

So, as Lawrence Welk might have said:

" . . . thank you boys . . . and now here's Bobby and Sissy to dance their cheeks off for you" (well, Lawrence probably wouldn't have said that! :p )

". . . a one and a two and a . . ." (flails at air with batton as Champaign bubbles start to fly) . . .

Black Forest Polka

Regards, JF

Hey guys and gals, I know I haven't posted here in forever but figured I'd drop in and toss a link to my YouTube account for this month's Piano Bar. I've only got 4 recordings up right now but it's something (no video though, don't own a camera, sorry!).

http://www.youtube.com/user/AnotherSchmoe

And yeah, I'm a major procastinator and still haven't upgraded to a digital piano so you'll have to suffer through my dying piano if you want to listen. Sorry, feel free to comment though. :p
