I’m sure some of the technicians here make bass strings, but where they get the copper from?

I’m from Mexico and it will sound silly but you have no idea how hard it is to get copper wire. 3 years ago I had a copper company agree to make me a special order of 5 kg from size 13 AWG to 31 AWG, they minimal especial order per size is about 25 kg spools. I guess there is no market for bare copper wire, so it was too time consuming for them not to tarnish the wire, they took like 2 months to complete the order and they weren’t very happy to do it.

All that copper will last me a lot but while moving it to the shop across the country someone from the moving company stole more than half of it besides tools and some other stuff. I went to consumer’s trial to have them pay for it but it was worthless.

Now I can’t have the copper factory to make me all again, so I decide instead, to bring it from the USA so I can get 1 kg spools of almost 20 sizes.

It really sounds dumb but I have no choice I have contact other companies but they always ask, how many tons you want!

I really appreciate if someone could recommend me a bare copper wire dealer who already sells it ready for piano technicians or “Where do you get it from”

Thanks a lot

Regards

Unfortunately, the United Wire Technologies factory in Cleveland, New York, was destroyed by fire this week. They do say they will rebuild.

I would be wary of simply finding a place that can sell you "copper wire". There is copper wire, then there is copper wire. If you want to produce pure sounding strings, you will need copper made to certain specifications. It is best to stick with tried and proven sources, such as "Degen" brand wire from Germany. That is what bass string makers in the US (and all over the world) use.

If you need smaller quantities of the copper wire for piano wrapped strings, I suggest you to contact www.pianoteille-baumgaertel.de
It is a nice small piano supply company, managed by a wife and husband, and they have 1 kg copper wire for pianos.

Are the importation taxes so high you cannot buy a complete set from Germany ? Did you ask the maker of the Degen ?INdeed there is the weight question but is it so expensive to get them from there ?

Do you want me to give a call at the factory for Degen , or do you consider the travel expense to be too high , certainly they will not sell little quantity but who knows, they may have the address you looking for.

Oh sorry I did not noticed you wher ignoring me, forget about that...
