Sorry Bob, missed your post.

BTW, Canon has a shift lens that sells new in the New York Market for about 1K.

Thanks Bob, but that's just it, , , I think.
I don't need super duper high quality work.
I need decent work to show off my incredible talent.
Learning photography seems as daunting as learning the piano and after many years of playing I'm still not proficient. I need shots that will be shown in a portfolio; 8X10 ? and on the web site that is in my signature line. The portfolio on the web site is pathetic and I want it to be splendid but it does not have to be ultra high quality. If I really want that I should probably hire a photographer (still a possibility for the really special stuff).

DSLR is big and bulky and I do not want to deal with removable lenses and a big bag. I used to have two SLRs in film format with lenses and bags and and and never figured them out.

I'm trying out the LX3.
I'll let you know if I am satisfied.

Mike

Don't bother with the well known brands like Canon, Nikon, Pentax or Sony for that matter.
You are just paying for the name that is no longer relevant anymore in the global manufacturing opportunities.

The best camera is called Broadcam made in China. Although Canon, Nikon, Pentax and Sony have plants in China the Broadcam has it's head office in Switzerland. All cameras are assembled using only the finest parts coming from Europe and are sent to Switzerland once completed for final set up.

Due to there unsurpassed quality control and love for cameras I feel they offer the best bang for the buck. I have owned 4 in the last 3 years and they keep getting better and better.

Hope this helps. I would hate to see you throw away your hard earned money on something that offers less for more. laugh
Are these available on the Internet from the CameraSuperStore?

Take a look at this guy's shots of Cambridge University (delete the forum stuff from the first link). This man is THE expert for low light architectural shots. Fabulous in my view. Really beautiful shots.

$500 is not a lot, but people on the forum ( 1st link) may have some truly expert advice.

Kind regards

Adrian
Adrian,
Thanks for that link, I'll spend some time there.
Beautiful photography for sure!

AJB,

Great shots in that portfolio. Those images are the beneficiary a lot of time consuming post production work to say the least.

Great technique!

I think an SLR is the way to go if you want to shoot in low light, a small lens is never going to get enough light into the camera for handheld low light shots so it's hard to avoid having something big and heavy. I have a Nikon D-70 and it works very well in low light. Of course if you use a tripod just about any camera that allows you to shoot at low speed will work. For the vast majority of people there is no need for expensive perspective correcting lenses in the digital world, you can do that in software.

Probably the most difficult requirement to satisfy on a budget is the wide angle which you will need if you are going to be photographing interiors. If you buy an SLR you can add a wider angle lens later if you need one. Although it seems that you are not thinking in terms of SLRs it is what I would recommend, my digital SLR can do everything my previous film SLRs could and usually better including ability to focus and shoot quickly or shoot in low light.

I guess I'll chime in. I have a DSLR, but recently purchased a Panasonic FZ28 super zoom so I don't have to lug gear during long shooting days. It's F2.8 at the wide end and and does suprisingly well inside. Wish I had a bunch of shots to show you, but here is an example. A simple snap shot taken during an informal small band night at the house. My son is learning the base guitar. web page

Adrian... let me add another thanks for those links. Those photos were breathtaking, but even more helpful were the free tutorials the guy has on taking and editing digital photos. That's a website I've bookmarked. thumb

My pleasure.

The gentleman who runs that site is a true gentleman. As well as a scholar. His work is exemplary in my opinion.

Kind regards

Adrian
