Hey everyone,

First post in a looong time!

I'm reading through the genius of Kapustin's first sonata, and I'm wondering if there is an error in the sheet music in the 4th movement:

18th measure, left hand. The chord reads E, Ab, C, but to me it HAS to be Eb, Ab, C to jibe with the fmin7/fmin9 vibe of the right hand. I have kind of a bad ear when it comes to discerning distinct notes from recordings. Can anyone confirm if this is what Kapustin himself plays in his recording, or if it is indeed an error.

It makes so much more sense to me with the Eb, and it's kind of driving me nuts.

Here is a small pic of the chord in question - Kapustin Pic

Thanks!

It does seem like it should be an Eb but i'd have to listen to it. A youtube vid with a timestamp would be very helpful.

I'm 90% sure I'm hearing him play an Eb

Thanks! That makes me feel better. To be honest, I think there are a few mistakes in this score. I'll just have to go with what makes sense.

Yes, his more popular pieces are in a very clean and crisp publication. The etudes, preludes, and a few of his more popular pieces like the variations.

Many of his other works only exist through his hand written manuscript which can make for an interesting reading experience.
