Hi. I bought Vienna Imperial VSL, but after several installation still not working properly. the problem it could be me, because this is my first virtual piano. I am using a Lenovo p50 laptop, with i7 and 8gb of ram, SSD for storage, Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 usb audio interface and yamaha CLP 535 for midi keyboard. When I start the Vienna Imperial and start to play, from time to time there are drop-outs and cracking noises and sometimes stops at all and makes only continuous noise. If anyone can help me, please let me know. Thank you!

Drop-outs and cracking usually means you need to increase your buffer size. Trying upping it just a little, test it, and if you still experience the sounds, increase just a bit more. You don't want it to be too high, or your latency will go up.
Try this and see if it helps!

Google:
Tuning windows for audio latency
Start with the Focusrite document, and go on from there.

Thanks for help. I did the tuning and increased the buffer. It is not stopping now but still some drop-outs and cracking noise here and there. Should I change the audio interface? or put some ram in the laptop?

Should I change the audio interface? or put some ram in the laptop? Is the buffer as high as it can go? RAM is cheap, but I think you have plenty to just run this software. Is the SSD a separate drive, or is it where your OS is located as well?

ram is actually getting more and more expensive at the moment due to a shortage but: https://www.tekrevue.com/tip/create-10-gbs-ram-disk-windows/ is an idea - several free ramdisks out there to try - considerably faster than SSD even

You might want to post this issue on the VSL forum as well.

I could be that there is some sort of conflict/issue with the actual audio interface and your Mobo. I had an issue time ago where my audio interface would not work properly on a USB 3 port, it would stutter, hang etc occasionally, plugged into a USB 2 port it worked fine. That went away since with windows 10, these days it works fine on both. I am not saying it is your issue, but it could be of that sort. For example, a quick google and you see discussions like this, https://www.reddit.com/r/audioengineering/comments/41lolp/scarlett_2i2_to_usb_30/I did not read it detail, but have a look, there may be a few pointers. Checking your laptop quickly, I think it only has usb 3 ports, they should be backwards compatible with usb 2, but in the past that has not always been a 100% reliable, these days it is pretty good though. Besides what already has been said - You could try the pianoteq demo, do you get an issue there ? that should be a hint, is it just the VSL imperial or not and hard disk memory related. - Make sure the audio interface is on the latest firmware. - Check driver releases and see what issues were addressed in the release notes, may there is another driver or a driver that works fine, particularly if you got a gen 2 scarlett perhaps, the drivers are young and may be a bit shaky versus the older proven gen 1s. Over time they will address issues no doubt. Mine got better over a period of about 18 months, there were never any showstoppers to begin with, but these days they are rock solid stable, with the earliest drivers, changing sampling rates, in the past it would sometimes go a bit funny, now ... never. - check you chipset drivers are up to date, in some case it is required that you install specific motherboard drivers. The windows ones may work 99% of the time, but can sometimes be shaky, it could be one of those rare circumstances. - As already said optimise your system for audio performances, there is much stuff out there, articles, youtube etc. with a bit of a search. edit to add: check BIOS updates for your motherboard too, see what was addressed in the release notes, flash the BIOS with the latest firmware if it is not already. Not often said as far as I am aware, like some of the more obscure issues could be to try disabling hyper threading in the bios (seeing you got an i7), some sound engines do not always get on well with it. You could ask VSL or their forums about that too, google a bit, others that own the instrument here may be in the know about this or that about the instrument. Good luck

VSLVienna Imperial needs 46GB.... if you want to put it on a ram disk, you will need more than 46GB of memory (RAM). I doubt the original poster has such an high setup.

USB3 ports can be wonky. Try some different USB ports. Also, what are the sample rates and buffer sizes you are using? Try extreme sizes to see if dropouts disappear like: -buffer of 512 or 1024 samples at a -sample rate of 44.1kHz You can also try installing latencymon free software to help see if the problem is your laptop and where issues are arising. Finally, I had similar latency problems with a similar laptop. My journey and some things I did to reduce latency are summarized below: http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/2618537/1.html

Thank you all. A lot of to do's with the virtual piano , but somehow without making any changes after a few restarts now is working perfectly, no drop-outs and no fancy cracking noises. Anyway, I'll try to deepen my knowledges about the virtual pianos and setups . Thank you again. If you can, please recommend a good headphone for digital piano, between 150-300€. Now I have a AKG 240 MK II and till now I found Focal Spirit Professional to be the next one, but any suggestions are welcome.thank you.

I prefer open backed headphones... Same here. I'm really happy with the Sennheiser 598e.

There are many "headphone" threads here. The Senn 598 is frequently mentioned.

Worth mentioning, that the Sennheiser HD 598 Cs, are out. I was actually tempted to get them, though I have a perfectly working HD380 Pro. The HD598 Cs are closed back. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sr8ob5X_AS8

Not an expert, but I also own Vienna Imperial, using it with Sennheiser HD 600 headphones with Asus Xonar Essence Stx II sound card. I'm very happy with the detail and purety of the sound with this combination. I think Vienna Imperial is one of the best VSTs in the market, hope you enjoy it. Let me know if you have any questions. Regards, Görkem

Man I have Vienna Imperial, Focal Spirit Pro and HD598 (open). Forget the Focal, good sound but terrible sound-stage, and what's more uncomfortable. For they were 300EUR wasted. HD598 sound great with Vienna Imperial, better than with Ivory and very comfortable. HD600 may sound even better but only with a decent amp.
