Hi,

I would like to be able to record myself practicing the piano in a simpler way. Currently I use a Panasonic DMC-F5 digtal camera and a Zoom H2n recorder for sound quality. Synchornizing video and audio is quite onerous.

Any suggestions for a video camera that has very good sound, and not too expensive -- under $300?

The quality of sound is very important to me so I can hear the quality of my tone and the subtleties in dynamics.

Thanks.

Keep the H2n and camera separate. They are each good at what they do, respectively.

Learn how to sync audio. CLAP once before you start playing. Does the camera have a microphone?

If camera has a mic, clapping will create rather precise peaks in the audio levels which you can line up visually in your editor, then close your eyes and listen to confirm that the claps are synced, then remove the audio from the camera track.

If camera doesn't have a mic, then you will have a visual, precise moment of the clap which you can line up with the peak in audio from the H2n track.

This is why clapperboards were invented. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clapperboard

Hi SonatainfSharp,

Thanks for your response. I have been surfing the net since I read your reply and I did something I should have done years ago: Read up on Windows Movie Maker and watch the many tutorials on YouTube.

I did know about the clap but all this time I was lining up the audio visually with the image... which was a hassle.

I did a short test video a little while ago and it is such a breeze to line up the 2 audio peaks. This is so great.

As you indicate, there is no need or a video camera now that I know this. I should have asked a long time ago.

Thank you again. You are a tremendous help. smile
