If this is the flagship model, why are the samples looped and stretched?
At this price-point I’d expect the longest, unstretched samples in the world (I’m not sure what the current record is).

Wait, it doesn't offer MIDI compatibility, mp3/wav recording, or built-in metronome? No way for me! smile

This piano almost sounds as good as my MP11. What kind of stand is that?

Good, but it doesn't quite capture all the subtleties of an NV10. I think they've turned down the buzzing, which may not be to everyone's taste..

Unlike the NV10, the buzzing feature for this piano can be set to one of three settings: low buzz, medium buzz, or high buzz.

Does anyone have a MIDI file of the piece from the video?
Grieg, Op.57 No. 1, Vanished Days
I've been looking online, found many of his works, but not this one.

The reason: I want to run that MIDI through my various virtual pianos, and compare the sound from the VSTs with that from the video of this top-of-the-line Shigero.

I have this version of Op.57 No. 1. I doubt you can make a VST make it sound remotely as good as Ilić would on a crappy AG, but give it a try anyway :-)

I'm late to the party, but I just rendered the above MIDI file in the Production Voices Estate Grand for Kontakt, which incidentally, is a Kawai GS60. No changes made, except for a bit of amplification in Audacity.

While I don't claim the audio quality is as good as in the original video posted by James, I hear some similarities. Let me know what you guys think.

Interesting ... arc7urus offered a MIDI file which runs at 100 bpm.
Your dropbox audio seems to run at about the same tempo, maybe a bit more.

But the original video, linked by Kawai James, runs at around 72 bpm.
I found the score at pianostreet.com, and the tempo indication is Andantino, which wikipedia defines as 78–83 bpm.

So we have two sources at 100 bpm, another at 78-83, and another at 72.
I don't want to fuss over which is "correct". Yet the feel is very different at 72 compared to 100.
Which?

Have to admit I didn't check the BPM, but you're right. Might be interesting to lower the BPM and render again.

I just wanted to compare my Kawai VSTi to a real Kawai piano, not necessarily get the right tempo, though it is probably best to compare the same piece at the same tempo.

Henle also has it as Andantino

I "converted" the offered MIDI file to 72 bpm and ran it through my virtual pianos in Kontakt, including the Kawai EX Pro.
Well ... sorry to say, it's just not the same. The "real" Kawai wins.
Tonight I'll try it again using the Vintage D piano.

I can't imagine that a 100bpm midi recording stepped down to 72bpm would sound anything like an actual recording played at 72bpm. Too bad, too, as we don't have nearly as many direct A/B comparisons as we should given the resources available.

Good afternoon folks,

Thank you very much for your positive feedback.

Kawai Europe has added a follow-up video, again featuring pianist Ivan Ilić performing on a Shigeru Kawai instrument that I thought many of you would enjoy:

I've yet to visit the Kawai store in Hamburg, but it looks absolutely wonderful!

Kind regards,
James

System Requirements?

I’m thinking about getting the Synchron D, but this thing just speaks to me. After just one second I knew ‘this is the one’.

They did a good job of making it sound as good as it looks, in these two vids!

So what would our Piano World discount be on this model, Sir KJ?

Maybe we can get a group buy going!?
