I tried the MIDI file of the Grieg, Op.57 No. 1, Vanished Days with the Kawai EX-Pro sampled piano, but noticed it was very robotic & quantised (maybe generated from notation rather than played in?). Failing that, here's an excerpt from another Grieg piece called Solvejg's Song, Op. 52, No. 4 - rendered with the Kawai EX Pro sampled piano:

https://soundcloud.com/user-64788827/solvejgs-song-op-52-no-4-excerpt

I'll leave it up on Soundcloud as a downloadable file for 24 hours.

What an awesome instrument.

Though it's as much the man as the instrument that we are hearing.

That being said: why is there no proper Kawai SK-EX VST out there? ._.

The backbone of modern industrial society is, and for the foreseeable future will be, the use of electrical Power.

The sound of the recording is incredible. 4 microphones on the side, two close to the strings (and not the hammers) and two for the overall instrument.

I really, really love this piano. The tenor and bass are fantastically rich and growling and the overall balance sounds wonderful.

Just speculation for the moment, however I wouldn't be surprised if an SK-EX sample library was to emerge in the future, given the prestige of the instrument yet lack of VIs.

Kind regards,
James

Thanks James. I agree someone should sample a Shigeru Kawai. There are so many sampled Steinways, Yamahas & Bosendorfers out there, we need a new colour, and the SK-EX is a stunning instrument. I've played a Shigeru Kawai SK6 a few times and it was magnificent. The action was incredibly nuanced and the tone was rich and deep but with a lovely overall clarity.
