BTW I really hope they will update Steinwey D considerably with Pianoteq 7.

I bought the PRO version yesterday (just $30-something more expensive than Standard on Black Fryday). Now I have to decide which ones to pick. I am going to play (pun intended) with the demo version.

I bought two "add-on" pianos, the Bluthner and Grotrian.

They're both nice, especially the Grotrian. I've stopped looking for more:

My favourite: Bechstein
Least favourite: Steinway D

I still have to pick the four instruments packs. It is a pitty they require choosing all the packs at once to activate.

So far, I am already sold on Grotrian (I liked it most - very clear and full sound) and Steingraeber.

Divided between Petrof and Bluthner, with K2 being a strong candidate as well. I also considered the electric pianos pack but RD2000 has several variations so it may not make much sense.

I will play with PTeq again tomorrow to try making up my mind.

Ever since the C. Bechstein came out, I never use anything else (generally the Recording 3 preset, stereophonic output)...it sounds the most natural to me.

Least favorite would be the YC5...sounds like something between an acoustic piano and a CP-80.

Well, that latest version of Pianoteq’s Steinway D is highly underrated.

The two pianos I find myself playing and spending the time to tweak are (in order):

1. The Bechstein DG. Beautiful warm tone with a singing quality in the treble. Really enjoyable to play.
2. Steinway B. I much prefer this instrument over the Concert D. Feels 'real'.

Interestingly, I had already discarded the Bechstein when I read this comment of yours as I did not like it much when I tried it before (sustain sounded short on C5 upwards). Yesterday I tried it again along with Bluthner, Petrof and K2 and it turned out I liked Bechstein's tone better this time and it was one of my final list (along Steingraeber, Grotrian and Petrof).

FWIW this time I tried PTeq with RD2000 and Eris 5 monitors and a less jurry rigged setup than before.

I did not like it at first either, but during my tests yesterday, I started liking it. Far from a favorite, of course, but it has some character that I liked, if that makes sense.

FWIW I discarded the Bluthner because of a strong (or so it sounded to me) thump. It makes it interesting though, and It could be my sixth choice if it were available with the PRO license.

Dropping into this older thread to plug the YC5. As a beginner with poor dynamics control I'm enjoying the YC5's less powerful bass as its more forgiving of my heavy left hand. And anyway, when would I ever get to play a 9ft concert grand in real life?

The Petrof 275 and 284 are the ones I use most often.

And #1 - My own mix (morphed) piano designed for studio monitors: NY Steinway (superb bass), Steinway B (clarity on mids/treble) and Grotrian (for sympathetic resonance). Creating and tweaking your own piano is to me the allure of Pianoteq.

My favorite has vaccillated between the Bechstein and the Petrof Mistral. I think my favorite changes sometimes as a result of my tinkering with my piano sound system and my velocity settings. Since purchasing the Bechstein a couple months ago, it became my favorite. But, I recently lowered my velocity settings in the VPC1 Editor to get my actual dynamics to more closely match the feedback from the Pianoteq Velocity Curve window. This reduced the "presence" of the Pianoteq pianos. So, I slightly elevated the hammer hardness settings and hammer sounds/volume (I can't remember exactly what it is called) and regained the brightness/presence I had lost. But, now the Petrof Mistral sounds best to me and gets most of my attention.

I am about to embark on an open baffle speaker system experiment, so, my favorite may change again in the near future. Right now, the Petrof Mistral sounds very nice.

The ancient bechstein, and Grotrian. At the moment. I like them all.
