The acoustic pianos now are sampled.
So no more updates for the Physis modelled pianos.

Hi Rhodes 74,

Nice concept isn't it.

This doesn't have modeled acoustic pianos in it, so it's not a physis piano successor or anything like that.
Actually, I see it's main competition to be the Korg SV2 and the Crumar 7, both of which have modeled ep's etc.
It's interesting that Viscount have chosen to enter this market rather than release a new controller or new stage piano in the Physis line: tells you that they didn't do that well out of modeled acoustic pianos, i.e., given that in this unit, they've gone with High Res piano sampling instead.

Kind regards,

Doug.

It's an interesting observation and I'm gonna speculate that maybe it's a sign of at least one company ultimately realizing that modeling in its current way wasn't the best idea after all.

Neat concept! Hope it doesn't go the way of LG/Motorola/Google modular phones. IOW, it's not what they have available at launch, it's what modules they'll have in 5-10 years time.

Pseudo-"modular" usually just means that a product is broken down into pieces, which are sold separately. In the end it's just a neat way to hide the final price of everything you need to buy to get a working product.

Studio gear has been modular all the time, you get what you want and wire it up using XLR and MIDI.

Hi CyberGene,

In Viscounts case, I reckon that their unit sales on the Physis line were probably hampered by
a) lack of distribution and store presence plus the high-cost of the H1 lol.
b) A less than charming demo released on YouTube e.g., Roland V-piano: George Duke ripping into some Funk and other several great professionals; Physis piano: an easy listening arrangement of "Somewhere over the rainbow".

Was a shame, because except for the action, I thought it was a great product for its time.

Kind regards,

Doug.

I'm sure that two and a half minute bootup time didn't help, either.

.......Fatar action didn’t help; the price didn’t help; bad marketing/distribution tactics didn’t help........
Physical Modeling had nothing to do with the Physis’ failure (it did fail, right?)
Also, Pianoteq 6 didn’t help! grin

This is an old thread, but lets give it some new life! I just got a hold of the Viscount Legend 70s Artist-W board and I can tell you this is one outstanding board! So much to talk about and even more to perform/create!

I plan on doing a full review of this board but in the meantime, I just posted a "Sound Demo" video on Youtube at:

Enjoy!
