No, Kawai is somebody's last name and pronounced differently. It has only two syllables.
Cute in Japanese is three syllables" ka wah ee ee and uses a different character tp write it

It was a he. His name was Koichi Kawai, founder of Kawai Pianos.

Cute = kawaii = ka wa i i = 4 syllables
Kawai (piano name) = ka wa i = 3 syllables

So yes, Westerners pronounce Kawai (piano) incorrectly when they pronounce it with only 2 syllables, but that seems to be the accepted English pronunciation.

I tend to say ka-why-eee (for cute), however I'm far from being a leading authority on Japanese pronunciation.
