Yesterday I was tuning an 1850s straight strung Collard and Collard. The client was interested in having me replace the hammers. I said it would be better if he contacted a local period piano expert. We had a long discussion about honoring history by not modernizing the instrument.

The appointment right after that one I go tune a straight strung winter Musette spinet and the lady had this lampshade made out of medieval chant pages next to it. I was so horrified looking at this lampshade. I told the lady some historical preservationists would faint if they saw how these pages have been treated.
