Interesting use of VST's (Noire and Alicia's Keys)
And a look at how a composer pieces together a score.

By the way, I loved this show before it was hip to do so.

It had just been mildly released when I stumbled upon it, and the first thing that came to mind was ‘I’m not smart enough for chess’ (I only got up to checkers), but what the heck, let me give it a try......WOW!

Yes, the score is a minimalistic work of art and most certainly draws you further in.

The fact that he shamelessly used VSTs and decided to ‘phone-in’ the conducting session (for the acoustic component) shows that we no longer need the bombastic 100-piece orchestra conducted by sir Kismai Tucci to convey the ambiguous emotions, lost childhood, and subsequent inner turmoil of a twisted genius. It seems like Alicia and friends + a dash of acoustics (conducted remotely) can do just fine.

That was a really interesting article (and video), thanks for sharing it, I don't know that I would have come across it otherwise. It's really neat to see pros using these high quality VST's and then to get such an insight in to his craft was interesting and inspiring. Now I want to know what keyboard he uses to control it.

Interestingly, I was looking at this home page and there's a picture of his keyboard and it has stickers with the note names over it! I'm guessing this isn't because he doesn't know the keys but to make it easier to use the keyboard to control percussion and other instruments where it's not obvious how they are mapped. I say this because the stickers show the midi note numbers (C4 etc.)
