Hi everyone.

I was a happy owner of a Yamaha Avantgrand N1 for several years, but having recently visited a friend who owns a Yamaha G2, I decided to sell my N1 and look for an acoustic grand. I haven't played acoustic pianos for many years before that time at my friend's, sticking to electronic instruments both at home and at my teacher's. Now - it wasn't the sound of the small and slightly out of tune G2 that impressed me - it was how alive it was as a musical instrument, how it filled the space with sound - something my N1, despite sounding very nice and having excellent action, was unable to do. So I decided it was time to make room for an acoustic piano.

Acoustic grands (I was never a fan of uprights) were always way too expensive and I never gave them too much of a thought. However with the money from N1, some savings, and changed attitude towards used/rebuilt pianos, I begun my search for a at least 185 cm long piano. I visited two local stores with some new and used pianos. I was most impressed by a new Yamaha C5X, which sounded absolutely marvelous, despite my amateurish playing skills. It actually impressed me more that 2 new Steinway Bs that I checked in another store. Unfortunately it was way over the budget. Continuing my search I visited a rebuilder who was selling a rebuilt Bechstein V from about 1880-1890, 200 cm long piano. The rebuild was extensive, but the soundboard & bridge, as well as ivy keytops were not replaced. Surprisingly the piano did not develop a crack in the cast iron plate. I was very impressed by the sound, and even though the new hammers required a bit of voicing to mellow the sound down, I decided to get it. Thanks to the very hard work of 3 gentlemen who carried it up 3 flights of stairs, the piano is now in my small apartment, and I couldn't be happier!
