I’m sorry Philip. I don’t know what model this piano is. If anyone is aware of the model, please share.

I think it pre-dates the models but it seems to be closest to an old model 9? Maybe that's also the IV?

By the courtney pianos uk site the IV is 122 cm and overstrung and 85 notes and the V is straight strung and 85 notes. They appear to be the only 85 note models and the Roman numerals where dropped/changed in 1902. Hope thats correct!

Mine is a III. It is 1.28 metres tall with 88 keys.

The old 9 was an 85 key model 4'1" tall.

Of course, I am not sure of this, but that makes sense. I see no markings of a model anywhere.

If you are interested, and willing to pay a small fee, Bechstein will search their records and give you details from the serial number.

Their factory was redesigned by Marshal of the Royal Air Force Sir Arthur Travers Harris, 1st Baronet GCB OBE AFC during the 1940s and some of their records were lost so there is no guarantee.

Rich - gorgeous restoration. Bravo.

Question for you about the keysticks. Did you bush with leather, or cloth? If cloth, what kind?

I **think** Bechstein bushes with leather today, but I'm not even sure if that's across all the C. Bechstein models (uprights and grands).

This inquiring mind wants to know.

Yes Seeker the keys were bushed with very soft leather, so we did the same. Good question.

And you are correct that Bechstein bushes their top of the line pianos with leather even today.
