I bought a piano that was delivered about 1.5 weeks ago, but I can tell that a bunch of the notes in the middle are going out of tune already. I called the dealer and they said to wait 2-3 weeks before tuning it to let the piano settle? I'm finding conflicting info by googling. Should I just insist that the tuner come out now to tune it? The dealer offered me 2 free tunings and a 5 year warranty when I bought it. When the movers delivered the piano, they had to turn it on its side to get it through my door. Not sure if this is why the piano went out of tune (the dealer said they had a tech tune it before they delivered it). It's an 8 year old Petrof P122, by the way, not a brand new piano.

The dealer is correct. Wait for 2-3 weeks more to let the piano settle in to its new environment.

Thanks, Hakki! Dang, I guess I'll just have to keep hurting my ears with my out of tune middle B, B flat and A grin

My opinion is that you can have it tuned whenever you want. The reason for the delay in tuning after moving has to do with money/value and not really what’s best for the piano.

Pianos adjust to the different environment and that may throw it out of tune, so the thinking is ‘Why spend the time and money tuning when it may go out?’ But if you want to have it tuned, go for it. I have always tuned my own pianos shortly after I have moved them. I’ve personally never had issues with them going out after moving, but I’ve also never moved them to a place with different temperature/humidity.

A note of obvious practicality: if you book a tuning tomorrow, the tuner is not going to show up for at least a few days - i.e., after the 2-week mark. Everybody is appeased.

Thanks, jsilva and Peter! I'm gonna schedule an appointment next week. The few out of tune keys are really getting on my nerves now, lol.
