Hello,

Has anyone order a Kawai ES920 from Musician's Friend? I have ordered once back in December but it's still backordered. Just wondering if anyone got theirs.

I have not bought any keyboard or ordered from Musicians' Friend. There are worldwide shortages of digital pianos, with unreliable or no forecasts of arrival. This is the case with all online retailers and dealers.

Thanks for the reply.

I just spoke with Guitar Center and they just told me Mid-June (possibly) for arrivals. Which is a bummer. That would make it almost 7-8 months of no practice.

Thanks again.

My local brick and mortar dealer has 1-2. Since it’s a model sold online by non-full line dealers, I suspect the pricing would be typically identical, no matter what type of dealer.

On Sweetwater, you can sign up for an email notification so that you're notified as soon as they get it in stock. I was lucky enough to get my new Kawai MP7SE a couple of months ago that way.

I'm not sure if the other 'big' instrument retailers offer the same thing.

I responded to Mac2010's post in the Prices Paid thread that I had also ordered an ES920 in December (from Guitar Center - affiliated with MF) and have not yet received it. I paid significantly less than $1599 so I'm not going to cancel and order from another dealer. I have other instruments and will wait it out - but I *would* like to get my hands on it!

Though not as big a Sweetwater on instruments, but certainly a huge online retailer - B&H offers this too.

You'll only receive a notification from Sweetwater if they have one or more available for sale. If 10 come in, but there are 20 on backorder, you'll never know that they received any, because there are none available to be ordered.

If you really want one, it's a good idea to actually place an order; this puts you in the queue. When they arrive, your sales guy/gal will confirm that you still want the item before it gets shipped.

I signed up for the Sweetwater notification, but never got notified. I ended up ordering an ES920 from a local Kawai dealer and he doesn't know when they will arrive.

However, if you are a YouTube reviewer you can probably get one in just a few days. wink

Greetings,

Welp, I just spoke with a few retailers and they all have confirmed that mid-june is the newest date to received the Kawai ES920, which is truly a bummer.

I actually bought an ES520 *used* in Denver last month. Brick and mortar piano stores have had these for a while. The big mail-order places will get them eventually. If you really want one, call your local piano store.

Piano Solutions in Indiana (pianosolutions.net) appears to have both the ES920 and ES520 in stock, as of right now. Worth a try if you really want one. FYI, they are listed on Kawai US's web site as the primary in-store Kawai dealer in Indiana.

unfortunately, no-one wants to honor the deal that I got from Musician's Friend. I was able to get 48 months at 0%. I'll clearly pay this off before 48 months.

Great firm; excellent customer service. I have bought all my serious pianos from them and also did some trade-ins. I will personally vouch for them.

But I do want to point out that they are more of a person-to-person store. More to the point, their website may not always reflect stock on hand. My personal experience being with the P515 which showed as in stock on their website but when I called them, they said it was out of stock. I'd encourage you to give them a call.

Will call them tomorrow. As of this evening, the order still says processing, so for something that is theoretically "in stock" the idea that the order still says "processing" makes me think it may not be quite as "in stock" as the website suggests. May end up canceling if it isn't actually on hand since this was mostly just an opportunistic purchase if they happen to have one. Stay tuned...

So, @SeaDrive, I just spoke with Piano Solutions and they gave me the same answer that @Mac2010 got from retailers: not expecting to get any ES920s until late May / early June. I cancelled my order and will continue playing my FP60 for the next while. I’ll check back in on this later in the year and see what the supply looks like.

Thanks for the update; good to know that their "In Stock" notice is meaningless. I guess the fact that everything they sell was listed as "In Stock" should have been a clue that that was the case. smirk

I found an ES920 for sale at Sweetwater in early March. There was one remaining after I bought mine. I had been checking several sites, including MF, daily for about three weeks. I don't know if that meant that Sweetwater was caught up on their orders but they had at least three for sale on the site around that time. I didn't have a pre-order anywhere.

If I were looking now, I would pre-order and check multiple sites daily.
