It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
My tech told me about machines at Bösendorfer that pound the keys 20,000-30,000 times to simulate playing after the first voicing. I'm very curious about these machines. Are they used by all the companies? Do they do scales or do they mash all the keys at once (hopefully in a soundproof room)? Do the machines just have one level of force or does it do different levels?
Reminds me of the machine they had at the IKEA in Calgary (not sure if it's still there) where they had a machine punching an upholstered chair to show that the products last. As a kid, it was the best part about going to IKEA 😂
It depends on the piano and the hammers. It helps stabilize the regulation as well. We often leave it going overnight. Sometimes only a few hours. Sometimes several nights.

We use the one from QRS with programs of different durations then set them to run after hours. We occasionally run it on some new pianos if they seem "green".

I was also going to suggest their Pianomation OT! If you like a player, it would have that added benefit for long term use, and you could also program it to play things that sound more musical, so as not to torment your ears while the keys are played in.

Yikes! I didn't check the price (I've never been interested in player systems).
Check out videos from Piano Restorations LTD UK on Instagram or Facebook. Multiple exams of several different types. Wonder if a rebuilder would loan or rent their machine to you?

It's okay, I'm just going to play it in manually as prescribed by my tech. I don't think we could stand to run a pounding machine for hours and hours in our home
I’ve toured the Bösendorfer factory in Wienerneustadt four times and have never witnessed such a machine. Their quality control procedures are incredible. I have seen and witnessed those including their significant documentation. They are unsurpassed. They know how to feel their quality and don’t need machines to regulate them.
The action on mine came from Renner, Germany. Maybe they do pounding there?
You could easily send Bösendorfer an email and ask. They will definitely get back to you.
