Hey everyone, thought some of you might enjoy my take on the evolution of piano music...in C-major!
From Bach to Stravinsky, I cover over 200 years of music history.

That was fun thanks! If you may allow for a criticism, the recording quality is pretty weird, don't know why, kind of low quality, like recorded with a phone and the fingernail noises prevail too much.

Very interesting, clever, and well played!! I too have one suggestion. About 3/4 of the time one piece leads in perfectly to the next one, but occasionally the sequencing is more abrupt. Perhaps you can adjust that slightly to make things more of a perfect quodlibet.

Here is a quodlibet written by my piano tech:

Glad you enjoyed smile I agree that the recording quality is slightly disappointing! It was a technician who recorded it for me so I was surprised how it turned out...

Thank you! Glad to have found this wonderful, thriving forum! I'm not a professional, no, but have played for a while now. A keen amateur perhaps...?

Thanks for the comment - glad you enjoyed it smile

Really good suggestion and in hindsight I wish I'd worked more on the transitions between pieces to make it more like a continuous composition. I think I was just getting a bit sick of the project by that point tbh and wanted it out of my life!

Wonderful!

I've always liked C major - even Arnie Schoenberg loves it too wink (think the conclusion of his greatest work, Gurrelieder - non-stop C major chord for ages). Who wants black notes anyway? For instance, Stravinsky wrote some piano music that uses only white keys........... thumb

I checked out your YouTube channel. Am I correct in thinking it's you speaking on the video analyzing Debussy's Ondine?

Thanks. I enjoyed it. I'm a newbie and from my vantage point I don't think I have enough years left in my life to play any of what you did. Awesome!

Wonderful playing. A lot of music from the 19th century. I was expecting more music from the earlier periods including Handel, CPE Bach, Haydn, etc.

If you drop the earlier pieces, you can have a compilation of piece from Beethoven onwards and call it "Music from the Great Romantics".

Really enjoyable arrangement of pieces from different composers...

It is indeed me speaking! I've found recording voice overs quite tricky; my voice tends to go completely monotone once the red light's on, as if I'm bored. If I gesticulate a bit it tends to help and I think in my subsequent videos (eg. 5 pieces to play instead of fur elise, or the Chopin or Scriabin analysis) I sound a bit more lively smile

Don't worry, I didn't really learn most of these pieces - just the first couple bars! wink

Thank you smile I thought the Bach prelude would make the perfect opening, so sadly that meant I had to scrap older works (by Handel for example) because I was going chronologically. Making the compilation was good fun so I'd definitely consider doing another...

Fred, the reply function of the forum is not what it seems to do. You should use quotes instead, so that it’s clear whom/what you’re replying to.
