Hello, does anyone know if this is a good piano?
Chickering grand 5.6 ft by baldwin made in Us- year 1996
The local store priced it at 9000 cad. Owned by a local single owner. I have played it but I am not so sure. It seems pretty good but at one point at I was playing fast, one of they key didn’t come up fast enough for me to play of again. Is this bad?
Should I wait for yamaha grand? I am not in a big rush. I am still working on basic jazz voicings and improvisation.

Another one is Irmler F175E made in Poland. Year 2015. Priced at 25000 cad. I haven’t tried this. It’s an hour drive away. The owner said it was never played. It has a piano player system and built in speaker snd humidifier.
Any info would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Hello, Metta,

You might get more responses on the acoustic piano forum here: http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/forums/1/1/piano-forum.html

Otherwise, I'm no expert, but I think the Chickering brand pianos that were made by Baldwin during that era were not bad pianos, and were actually made at the USA Baldwin factory. At least the one I played was. You could tell by the proprietary adjustable rear hitch pins on the rear of the cast iron plate.

The 9K Cad may be little high, but if it is being sold by a dealer, it might not be too high, I'm not sure. If you were skeptical about the key not returning fast enough, that is reason to keep looking, but that can be fixed. If you liked other aspects of the Chickering, it might be worth asking the dealer about it. Not sure how well that particular dealer preps it's used (or new) pianos. But I like a fast repetition key myself, no sluggishness or sticking. But again, that is something that can be fixed/improved upon.

As for a nice used Yamaha, yes, that would be a better piano than the Chickering made by Baldwin, by far, in my book, but is just my opinion. Also, an authentic USA made Baldwin would be a better piano than the Chickering as well.

I don't know much about the Irmler, but have heard of the brand.

Good luck!

Rick

Hello, Metta. You are still not posting your question in the piano forum. I'll help you.

The forum here, where we are now, is for post of members who have recently purchased a new piano and the forum is entitled "Share your story".

I see you also posted in the "Frequently asked questions" forum.

You need to look a little further down on the "Piano Forum" post page.

If you go here... http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/forums/1/1/piano-forum.html the first two forums at the top of the page are the "Frequently asked questions" forum, and the second is the "Share your story" forum. You want to go down to the third forum, which the primary "Piano Forum".

It is a little confusing the way it is set up.

I hope this helps! smile

Rick
