You guys, this could be significant; the “woofer” is now bigger (20cm), and the top speakers have been tweaked/re-configured. The sound engine -already very good- has also been improved.

Gombessa is already listing his NV10 on Craigslist! laugh

Mainly because the upcoming Yamaha P-135 will dominate the entry level market if Kawai don't release the ES120.

USB Audio in this forum most often means for the piano to have an embedded USB-audio interface, meaning you can connect it to the computer and play virtual pianos through the piano speakers digitally (noiseless) instead of relying on the line-in audio which is often problematic, as well as being able to record the piano audio through the USB-audio in the computer digitally, instead of relying on USB thumb drives for saving digital audio.

EXACTLY. This NV10S (that I already ordered) is missing 2 important things:

1. USB Audio interface
2. IVORITE keys

They could be saving those treats for the 10-foot long NV20S ?!

I don't care, really. My old Clav has plain old plastic, and I'm fine with that.

If a piano has a USB audio interface, that implies that you'll use it to play virtual instruments.

My old Clav doesn't have one, so I use a dedicated box. Such was the state of pianos 15 years ago.
I need to use virtual instruments because the on-board piano sounds stink. Badly.

But the Novus? If a piano this expensive needs virtual instruments, then I don't want this piano.

This could depends the of what you mean by « needs » virtual instruments.

With my old Yamaha CLP150, (circa 2002), I need VI, now with my N1X, I use most of the time with the onboard N1X CFX sound (but not the Bösendorfer).... but I am happy sometimes to use it with the already purchased VI (now, it just costs me the loading time).

There is the quality... and the taste. In my example, I compare a 3 not blended layers with a binaural recent tone generator. A CFX is preferable in my very personal point of view to a CFIIIS which is brighter.

I could add that there are no « hybrid » VPC-1... then if you want a real action to drive a VI, you must buy the whole DP (or get the Cybergene action).

Interesting ... I'm keen to hear in person if and how the speaker sound was improved.

The interface update is very welcome !

But will we see a NV20 (s?) this year 🤔?

You ask, “if and how?”

Well, the subwoofer is 2 inches bigger, and the top speakers are now set further apart (the stand no longer covers the rear speakers when laid flat), so there’s your ‘if & how!’

Why on earth would Kawai do this if they didn’t feel that it would improve the sound; who do you think they are, Roland?

Now, if they’d simply said “we improved” the speakers, yet everything remained the same in terms of size and configuration, your if & how would be valid, but my innermost Pete tells me this is a substantial improvement in ‘sound’, and yes, I’m willing to risk my hard-earned reputation on this!

Fair enough grin, I still wish for a NV20 (or 30/50) that combines soundboard and grand piano action, but willing to give a try to that updated NV10s.

Also, props to Burkey for starting a thread on a rumor that turned out to be true!

The NV20 will have a vertical soundboard and the NV50 a baby grand shape (and a soundboard)

In fact, the NV10/NV10S does not have room for a vertical soundboard as NV5/CA9X, but it's easy to see from the side view that by extending the main cabinet containing the action&keyboard directly extend to the back(60-80cm), keep the front part in the same style.
So there is room for a horizontal soundboard, turning it into a baby grand DP. I think maybe this is NV20.

If there is one, I will definitely upgrade to it instead of a GL-1/GX-1 Aures.

Btw, Rumors of a next-generation NV10 have been floating around for the past year, and I've been expecting either the aforementioned NV20 baby grand or an NV5 with a grand action, possibly named NV11.
But this time Kawai only made the NV10 a minor upgrade, special or second edition 10.

Got this picfrom another forum member earlier.
This is apparently an Onkyo transducer installed on the soundboard of a grand piano, maybe a test.
So there is no technical problem with either the baby grand DP NV20 or the GL-1/ GX-1 Aures.
