Burke is actually not my real name... I only use it to stalk my quarry

Kidding... I do on occasion use it for other purposes as well!

Truthfully, it isn't my official name but when my father was writing his speech for his 60th birthday party he started researching his family tree. Unbeknownst to the rest of our extended family - we'd all been living under a name that had no history attached. My great grandfather's WWI war records came up blank when my dad searched for them. Only when he pried my great grandfather's WWI war medals off their frames and looked at the back did the penny drop!

My great grandfather was born a Burke, but he had fallen in love with the enemy: he was an Irish Catholic and she was an Irish Protestant. So he changed his name to a Protestant name. Giving love is always more important than a name, or religion.

So I use Burke, in honour of my great grandfather who taught me the most important thing in life.

MBiG is not "Mr Big", as Pete14 suggested. It simply means M for first name, B for last name, and iG for the town I live in. So not really creative either. I prefer to save my creative potential for my job, where I never know exactly what to expect the next day.

Wie Waldi sounds like Vivaldi. I don't play anything of this composer and maybe I never will, but he is one of the first I leared when I was a small child.

"Wie Waldi" is German for "As Waldi" and Waldi is a typical name for dog if one doesn't find something more creative. You could translate it to Woody, but no: Waldi is for dogs and dogs only. And this leads me to my avatar

And I like this thread a lot. I often wonder about our 'nyms'. As it turns out, there are lovely stories behind quite a few of them. Thank you all for sharing these.

As for mine, it is about as boring as it gets:
-> Wanted to just use my initials;
-> PW requires three characters, so I added P for Piano initially;
-> Within a few days after registering, requested to have it changed to HZPiano.

I now feel sooo unimaginative compared to some others here...

Mine came from a book I read years ago and I don’t remember the author. The protagonist was full of witty sayings, like “Reunite Gondwanaland” and “Dyslexics of the world—Untie!” and so on.
I took my name from this blurb:
Pi r squared?
No, Pi r not squared.
Pi r round.
Brownies are squared.

I thought it was the opening notes of some song you composed although I couldn't figure out what the V was for

I only know "Waldi" as a name for dachshunds or, in Bavaria, usually also called "Wastl". Oh yes, then there is Waldemar H. who is also called "Waldi". But the guy with the wheat beer in his hand is certainly only known in Germany.

@Wie Waldi, I had correctly guessed your nym was a pun on Vivaldi, but I had no idea about the rest of your story and how it so completely comes together with that avatar. Brilliant, I say, just like Vivaldi himself! Well done.
