It's Fun to Play the Piano ... Please Pass It On!
Supposedly composed 'hastily' in the summer of 1831, Mendelssohn himself debuted his first Piano Concerto (Op. 25) in Munich, on October 17th, 1831. This is the first piano concerto that I learned as a teenager, but I never performed it live.
The piano recording is mixed with the orchestra part based on a Music Minus One recording (MMO 3011). The piano part was recorded on a Yamaha Clavinova and rendered with Garritan CFX.
Very nice! In fact, pretty wonderful. I started 'looking' at this piece recently, decided I wouldn't be able to play the last movement at the kind of tempo that I'd want to play it at, and put it aside.
The last movement here is at a relatively tame tempo, but it's a good tempo. Anyway I guess that when you're using Music Minus One you're limited to whatever tempo that's in? Or, with it being digital, is that not so any more?
Also, I don't really know what "rendered with" means! (Even though I now have a digital.) Including what it means for what this video necessarily means about what the person actually "played." Main thing I'm wondering: Did you actually play it at the tempo that we hear?
This is a good achievement no matter what tempo you played it at! But of course more impressive if you actually played it at that speed.
Yes, I played it at that tempo. Many (most) people play it faster but I think that it is more "lyrical" at this tempo.
"Rendered with" just means that the sound is not coming from my Clavinova, but is coming from Garritan CFX.
It is possible nowadays to change the tempo of an audio file without changing the pitch. If you don't like the tempo that the conductor chose, several companies that make accompaniment tracks have technology where you can change the tempo (and software exists where you could do that yourself) and play along at the new tempo.
