Hi,

Does anyone know how to watch Chopin competition 2021 online? Does it typically broadcast live on the competition's website? It is coming up pretty soon.

Thanks,
Osho

It was streamed live in 2015. IIRC it was on the Fryderyk Chopin Institute's YouTube channel.

It's streaming live right now:

Four thousand people currently viewing the stream. Cool! smile

Edit: sorry, I came in at the very end of the morning session; this one is done! Afternoon session begins (I believe) at 5:00 PM Warsaw time (GMT +2).

It is not necessary to view it live. The sessions are available for viewing later too.

Anyone kind of get bored by this? They are all playing almost the same programs. I swear if I have to hear the c# minor op 27 nocturne again I will scream…. The evening session tonight is either the 1st ballade or f minor fantasy.

I've been paying attention but I think I'm done until the actual competition. Everyone plays almost the exact same way, and like you said - almost all same repertoire. I'm crossing my fingers for a brilliant personality to emerge this year. Will we get an Argerich, a Pogorelich, a Bunin? Heck, I'll take a Yundi Li. Just don't let it be 2005 - 2015 again. Please...

There have been 36 competitors so far. The top 10 pieces are the following:

1. Ballade #4 -- 9 people
1. Barcarolle -- 9 people
3. Mazurka Op 59 No. 1 -- 8 people
3. Etude Op 10/8 -- 8 people
3. Nocturne 62/1
6. Etude 10/12 -- 7 people
6. Etude 25/10 -- 7 people
6. Etude 25/11 -- 7 people
6. Fantasy in F minor -- 7 people
6. Mazurka 59/3 - 7 people
6. Nocturne 27/1 - 7 people

So half the field is playing either Barcarolle or 4th Ballade. Of the remainder, a quarter are playing the Fantasy.

152 participants; in those with two countries listed, they are counted once in each country. This gives a rough calculation showing that:

59% are Asians.
25% are European
10% are North American
6% are Russian

Thank you all for all the statistics to date! Has anyone figured out how to see which day and time a certain competitor did/will play the first round? I've been through the competition website but not able to find that. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Working on: Schumann, Faschingsschwank aus Wien Op. 26; Mozart Piano Sonata No. 10 in C major, K. 330; Grieg, 25 Norwegian Folk Songs and Dances, 0p. 17 (selections)

Have you checked the "Calendar" link on the website?

Calendar - Preliminary

It lists each candidate, the date of their performance in the Preliminary round, and the programme they are scheduled to play right through to the end date of the Preliminary on 23 July.
