I like to support my local dealer but he is severely overweight and I have a bad back 🤔

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

I must say, there is one young and petite she-dealer that I wouldn’t mind supporting (you know what I’m sayin’), but the rest are big honchos weighing 500 pounds each, and I, like you, have a bad back too. So they can go ahead and support themselves!

NV10S - Hands On
It's a joy practicing on the NV10S. Here's a little recording: Petite Ouverture à danser by Satie, audio on USB, video on iPhone 7.

Nicely played rroer!

I've always thought the USB audio recording on the NV-10 to be a bit on the quiet/muted side. I wonder if that's to preserve dynamic range for editing?

Very nice playing! For me the NV-10(s) is the best digital piano. Period.

Amazing, I'm selling my upright and current digital to buy the NV10(s) - would you mind sharing what you paid for it, perhaps here: http://forum.pianoworld.com/ubbthreads.php/topics/1201029/digital-piano-prices-paid.html - thanks in advance and enjoy playing your beautiful piano!

I've always noticed on my NV-10 that the left side of the keyboard extended a little further out than the right side, meaning I could see past the back of the black keys more, before the fallboard blocks the view. I always thought the action was maybe mounted a bit off, but everything lines up fine. I took a closer look this morning, and it turns out it's the fallboard that is mounted a bit farther back into the piano on the left side:

So I took it apart, played with the tolerance of the mounting bracket for the soft fall mechanism, and put it back together.

It's not precisely lined up with the right side, but I did reclaim about 1mm, and it makes a difference (to my OCD eyes):

I think ideally, the felt extending from the fallboard should be right at the back of the black keys (that's how it is on the right side), but getting it there would require more work/risk than I'm willing to take (for now)!

Hard pass. I would check around other dealers.

The dealer's asking price ought never be "the" price.
And list price? Never ever ever!
Did you make an offer?

In case Kawai James is still monitoring this thread, I have a fairly minor feature request:

Is it possible to extend the digital attenuator for line-in level in Sound Settings, so that it completely silences the input? Right now, the bottom limit is -10db, which is quiet, but not completely silent.

[Linked Image]

It would also be great if this setting can be stored to a Favorite.

I'm playing a VST through the NV-10's speakers, and there's no easy way to silence the VST so that I can use the built-in piano sounds, unless I pull out the MIDI plug, change the volume on VST PC, or reach under the piano and turn the physical line-in volume knob. It would be nice to be able to do this from the panel, and even better if I could have one favorite with line-in set to normal volume (with local control off, for VST play), and one favorite set to line-in Off (with local control on, for built-in sounds).

I'm so bad at negotiating smile I just asked him if this is the best price they currently offer and he said yes... I'll definitely shop around nationwide....

Maybe ask for their best price and state that you’re not going to pay more than others have paid since there are lots of stores out there. You want a fair price for both of you. From the prices thread and the spreadsheet (US only):

NV10 $12,995.0 ($ List)
$ Paid discount %
$9,750.00. 25.0%
$10,999.00 15.4%
$10,000.00 23.0%
$9,999.00 23.1%
$8,278.00 36.3%
$9,745.00 25.0%
$10,315.00 20.6%
$8,874.00 31.7%
$7,500.00 42.3%

Average price: $9,495.56
Average discount%: 26.9%

I don't ask the dealer for his best price. Instead I always offer the dealer my best price.

It's simple: I decide how much I'm willing to pay. And I make that my offer.

It's really not negotiating. It's just about making an offer.

N1x actual sale prices may help the conversation too.. let them know your other options they could lose the sale to.

I had my heart set on an NV10 (or NV10s) but couldn't find any online. My local dealer (Tacoma, WA) offered 11k tax included for their demo unit. I offered 10k and was turned down. So I went and bought an N1x instead for $8.5k delivered w/ bench and headphones. It's now on its way.

I haven't played either but by nearly every account the NV10 is superior. However, is it $2,500 better?

I don't believe this will be possible, I'm afraid.

Another option, in addition to the three that you list, might be to simply turn off the computer if it's not being used.

Kind regards,
James

Congrats on the purchase.

I chose an N1X because it was less expensive (although two years ago I could have gotten an NV10 for 8,500 not including tax). I opted for the N1X which was about 8000 out the door. There were a few other reasons I went with the N1X, e.g., digital audio interface (which I use everyday), and ironically the action seemed more like the Kawai acoustics I was used to playing. Although, according to the dealer, the NV10 action needed regulating.

I've had my N1X for over two years and I still experience the same euphoria when I sit behind it as I did when I first bought it. I'm sure the NV10 owners can say the same also. We are all fortunate to own such nice instruments.

God Bless,
David
