Hi all,

working on Scriabin's little prelude op 11 no 5. When I listen to recordings, the final D major chord is struck twice even though its is written only once in the score.
Can anyone explain?

Thanks, David

In all editions I have seen, it's written this way:

So, yes, it's played twice.

Thanks! I thought the strange signs in the last bar were pauses... Whats the name of that sign?

BTW, a lovely piece! And not as easy as it might appear.

They are "double whole notes" or "breves".

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Double_whole_note

They have to be used here to fill the whole measure.

Yep, it is breve, just like Qazsedcft said. Basically you need to hold the last chord until the sound completely dies out. Such a beautiful piece!!
