Hello

I would be very interested to know more information about Kawai's production sites, and which models of digital and analogue ("natural instruments") come from which site.

Currently, I only know that they produce in Japan, of course, and I think I read that they also produce in Malaysia. I don't know if there is a division of the models and if so, what the conditions are for production where.

Maybe someone here in the forum has more information? thumb

(If there is already a thread about this, I apologise in advance for opening a new one).

Many thanks and kind regards
MBiG

I bet Kawai James has more information, but my expert research based on listening to internet nobodies over the years yields:

1. They have an acoustic piano production site in Ryuyo, Japan (K/GL/GX series)
2. They have a separate acoustic piano production facility for the Shigeru Kawai acoustic pianos (maybe in the same site as above).
3. They have an acoustic piano production site in Karawan, Indonesia, which also produces the Novus series hybrids (NV-10, NV-5, NV-10S, NV-5S).
4. They have a digital piano production site in Indonesia in the same region.

Each "production site" may comprise multiple plants across different cities/regions.

Edit: Looks like Kawai has a detailed FAQ answering exactly this question!

Thank you for that link, @Gombessa! That is an interesting read; I was also interested in knowing more about this.

So @MBiG, thank you for bringing this up!

Hats off to Kawai for being vividly clear on this subject.

Cheers and happy piano origins,

Hello,

Outside the edit time window:

I'd definitely recommend Kawai to do a thorough overhaul of their website content, for I very regularly come across outdated and/or missing information.

Cheers and happy updating,

HZ

@Gombessa and HZPiano,

thank you both for the feedback. I will have a closer look at the link and, yes, Indonesia instead of Malaysia....there I had probably confused something....

Thank you very much and have a nice evening,
MBiG

PS:
OT - have noticed that Pete14 is not as active as he used to be....I hope he is well....

Pete14 can get a little carried away at times but I actually like reading his Prose smile Usually very entertaining.

All these years playing and I still consider myself a novice.

The ES110 has a great key action and response.

Strange, that FAQ says that of the acoustic uprights (and silent/aures versions) only the K200 is made in Indonesia. However, my K300 ATX3 ("acoustic hybrid") , about 1.5 years old, has a serial number starting with an F, which this page: https://kawaius.com/technical-support-division/faq/kawai-piano-serial-number/ on the Kawai site says is Indonesian... Perhaps Kawai James can shed some light on this?

I'm not an acoustic piano specialist, however it's my understanding that K-300 instruments exported to the US are produced in Japan, while K-300 instruments exported to Europe are produced in Indonesia.

Kind regards,
James

Thanks, that makes sense. I did not notice that the page linked by Gombessa was Kawai US only.
