I heard that renting a shipping container to ship stuff from the Far East to the West, pre-pandemic cost around $1400 now the price has risen to $14000!!. It could be reason that low profit margin stuff is delayed?

Could the semiconductor shortages we're having in the world, be contributing to these late deliveries of digital pianos?

I was told by our shops that it was caused by the pandemic. Factories had to close or had to greatly reduce production.

Good news <for me> GC has piano and is shipping. I must say in the age of computers, etc., both GC and Kawai need to do a better job updating their database with current information and getting that info to customer service so that real answers (not made up,) can be provided.

Well, I ordered my NV5 in May 2021 and still not delivery date available for me.

I am in New York and the dealer said Kawai is providing very little or no info on when to expect the next shipment. Hopefully before Christmas, but at this point I am not too sure

My waiting time for the NV5S was about 6 months. If the instrument has defects that cannot be repaired on site, it is almost certain that the delivery time for a new unit will be the same as for the first delivery. If you don't want to remain in waiting mode, the only thing left is to accept any problems that may exist and can not be repaired in site. (Or tabula rasa)

Unfortunately, this is simply the current reality.

All of the above compels me to reiterate my refusal to buy my much-anticipated new piano this year.

In 2019 I held off because I'd soon be retiring and moving.
In 2020 I held off because of 'rona.

In 2021 I'm holding off because there are simply no pianos.
No stock? No purchase!

I hope I live long enough to get past these roadblocks.

It used to be that people paid more to get things sooner (overnight delivery, the best table without waiting in line, etc), but now we pay more and then wait for 6 to 12 months.

This is certainly not a buyers market, and personally, I believe it would be better to not buy an instrument that might arrive alongside the ‘newer model’.

What’s the point of paying and then waitin’; why not simply check in with the dealer periodically, and if a unit is available for immediate delivery buy it on the spot?

I just don’t get how some people are willing to pay for a piano that may or may not arrive in six months; whilst others seem to ‘get lucky’ and leave home with a shiny piano. I’ve seen it reported here, “just got me a Novus”; whereas, another guy says “still waitin’” (six months later).

Of course, we have to take regions into consideration, but in general, despite this mess, some ‘lucky’ buyers have gotten a digital piano fairly quickly whilst others wait forever; this makes me wonder.

It's actually a form of panick buying, isn't it?

What happens when the stores have all been emptied, because the panick buyers went in and bought everything? Then there is a waiting period, until the stores have filled their shelves again.

Now people are getting their names put on the waiting list, so technically they may well be panick buyers who attended the buying frenzy late.

I'm not too proud of my own buying behaviour over the last year; I have bought things which I knew I would need, but only later, and these things (mostly books, CD's, and DVD's) are now safely sitting on my shelves, and will be for several months more, before I get to use them. This has not been entirely ratíonal behaviour on my part.

Maybe there is a sense of: the end of days is approaching, don't think, just live fast!

... Well, that got to be rather more philosophical than I had planned at the outset. laugh

There are also buyers who do not necessarily need the desired instrument promptly and can therefore wait. Unfortunately, these buyers may then be in front of those who are waiting urgently. In this case, I also belonged to the first type of buyer.

I have not tried to find out whether one can improve the delivery time or the position in the queue with money and/or connections. To be honest, I reject this for me in terms of fairness.

One thing I can at least report from my purchase attempt is that in my case it did not matter in terms of delivery time that I paid for the instrument in full immediately when I ordered it, i.e. not just a deposit as is usually the case.

I think that MacMacMac is right in his rather sceptical attitude to this current situation, as sorry as I am for the many customers who are currently (urgently) waiting for their dream instrument and have no reliable information about how long it will take.

Mac, further elaborating on that thing which makes us wonder:

EssBrace just ‘got lucky’ and fairly quickly received his N1X, yet many others keep waitin’ and waitin’. wink

By the way, congrats to EssBrace on his N1X, and his lucky streak. I sure hope that them unlucky folk catch a break, and that the old gods and the new listen to their prayers, or else, they’ll be waitin’ some more.

P.S.

So far EssBrace seems happy with his brand-new N1X, and I can’t say I’m not a little jealous. blush

This certainly has not been a sellers market either, at least by tradition of the old theoretical “Supply & Demand “ explanation of merchandising. For now it seems to be a sellers market only for the relatively few sellers who happen to actually have scant inventory of new (or used ) items.

Can anyone remember the last time it was theoretically a seller’s market but in actuality was simultaneously not a buyers market nor a sellers market ?

Can I ask a question about this? Was this in 2020 also an issue in the US? I thought that only we (crazy Germans) had nothing better to do than hoard toilet paper shortly before the supposed end of the world. Or did the German demand even cause the world market to falter? grin

..... ironically, thanks to increasing info superhighway life , past go-to butt serviceable TP substitutes - phone books, huge catalogs and other non-glossy, bound print - and the diminishing returns therein , other more basic input/output-based productions may soon struggle to NOT get wiped off the face of the ....you know 😐

Essbrace being on the other side of the ‘pond ...... maybe the laws of DP availability S&D physics operate differently over on that side of the world .... having recently found epianos.co.uk , i think its nice there are firms soldiering on doing a thorough job of streaming intricate Yami product details regardless of whether they are able to acquire inventory (to sell) of the same products they explain so well.

I have also ordered a piano (back in January). However, I did not pay any down payment. I am simply put “in the queue” and will only pay upon delivery, so there is no financial risk for me. If I wouldn’t have ordered, I would not be able to get a piano even when the situation normalizes again, because there would be many people before me who have ordered. So that’s my reason for not waiting until a unit is available in stock.
