Hi All,

Looking for help with a piano. It's a new (1-2 years old) Schumann GP-152 grand piano. It's at a school that contracted me to service their pianos. I've been a technician for about 2 years now so I still feel like a "newbie." Anyway, when using the sustain pedal while playing this piano, the dampers (a dozen or so) will get stuck up and thus not "dampening" the strings. I was puzzled by this and continued to mess around with the piano, manually pushing the dampers back down by hand, etc., but they would continue to become stuck again. I then discovered when I pressed the sostenuto pedal, all those dampers that were "stuck" suddenly all fell down back to the correct "dampening" position. This leads me to believe this problem could be due to an improperly adjusted sostenuto function? I'm not very familiar with the sostenuto function and how to regulate or adjust it if that is even possible. Any tips on how to remedy this?

Thank you!
Lance

The sostenuto bar, which turns to catch the tabs on the damper underlevers, is either sticking, or too close to the tabs. The tabs are catching on it. You will need to remove the action to adjust it.
