Hi folks!

I'm bored with my sheet music and am seeking suggestions.

I'm looking for an intermediate or intermediate-advanced piece that's in the 2-4 minute length range. Preferably something that's NOT Chopin because I've played him to death!! Less-well-known composers are always interesting to me. I tend to hate Mozart due to his floweriness.

To give you a sense of my level: I've been playing for 40 years. Chopin's Scherzo #2 is the hardest piece I've ever learned (and memorized!). Also his Fantasie-Impromptu.

But, after spending 2 years learning the Scherzo and seeing it quickly evaporate without diligent maintenance practice, I'm ready to take on something shorter!

Many thanks. :-)

Pieces from Romeo and Juliet

Forgot to mention: Earl wild transcriptions of Gershwin

Bach Fantasia in C minor, BWV 906 (the accompanying fugue is unfinished). Rather unusual style for Bach, seems to be his experimenting with the then new galant style. Can serve as a virtuoso piece depending on tempo.

Lots of popular pieces fall into the pop-song-length category. The only question is how popular or how obscure a piece you're looking for.

Pop:
Mendelssohn: Lied ohne Worte in E, Op.19/1 and several others
Schumann/Liszt: Widmung
Liszt: Liebestraum No.3
Debussy: Arabesque No.1
Grieg: several Lyric Pieces
Rachmaninov: Preludes in C# minor (Op.3/2), D (Op.23/4) & G#minor (Op.32/12)

Less popular:
F.Couperin: Les barricades mystérieuses
Scarlatti: several sonatas
Beethoven: several Bagatelles
Schubert: some of his Moments Musicaux
Fauré: Romance sans paroles in A flat, Op.17/3
Albéniz: Suite Española - several pieces
Paderewski: Nocturne in B flat, Op.16/4
Ginastera: Danza de la moza donosa
Szymanowski: Etude Op.4/3

Bach
Scarlatti
Beethoven
Schubert
Mendelssohn
Schumann
Brahms
Liszt
Grieg
Tchaikovsky
Rachmaninoff
Debussy
Scriabin
Albinez
Granados

Why don't you play some concerti?

Schumann
Liszt #1
Saint-Saens #2
Beethoven #5
...

All very approachable and brings tons of joy!

Saint-Saëns wrote some great ètudes. I particularly like the polyrhythmic study for its beauty. (Op. 52 No. 4)
