Ok, sorry for the additional thread, but the other thread was about CPS benches, this one is about benches sold by Jansen. Has anyone purchased an imported adjustable bench through Jansen's? I'm looking at this one: https://jansenpianobenches.com/coll...table-piano-bench?variant=39376387178558Obviously it won't be as good as a Jansen's, but for home use (daily, 1-2 hours of playing) do you think it's suitably sturdy? TIA!

See my post about JansenPianoBenches.com in the CPS thread and ignore it if you think it not relevant.

Bruce, just saw this post, thank you! I checked the "about" info at JansenPianoBenches.com and they do present themselves as being part of the Jansen business. I don't really have any reason to doubt that. But, having said that, here's what I wrote: I just emailed pjansen to ask about the connection between their company and the company at https://jansenpianobenches.com.FWIW, JansenPianoBenches makes it very clear which benches are Jansen's and which benches are imported. And at pljansen.com, they do sell some imported benches (although they have fewer options than at JansenPianoBenches). I'm leaning toward purchasing the bench linked above, so if anyone has first-hand knowledge of it, I'd be grateful to hear what you think of it!

Why does it matter to you? im guessing this question is directed at me saying I asked about the connection between the two companies? It matters to me bc I’m considering spending a lot of money, and the Jansen name has an incredibly good reputation, so I feel better about making a purchase when it’s such a well-regarded company. But if PJansen is the only official website and the other website is using the name inappropriately, then I want to know that. After all, I’m considering ordering online from a company I’ve never ordered from, I don’t want to be scammed, for one thing! Having said that, as I look at it, I find it hard to believe that the two companies/ websites are not connected, but I’d like to know for sure. I personally know people who own Jansen Artist Benches, and there are a lot of PW people who own CPS benches. So I am hoping to hear from someone who’s ordered from the JansenPianoBenches website as well.

I bought an imported adjustable piano chair from the Jansen website about 2 years ago. It’s holding up just fine so far. I adjust it up and down all the time and move it around because my digital is a little shorter than my acoustic. It came unassembled. It is heavy, but not as heavy as my Jansen bench. https://jansenpianobenches.com/products/adjustable-piano-chair-with-diamond-tufted-padding

MIchael, thanks for commenting! You are the first person I've read who has purchased a non-Jansen product from them, so even though it's not the same item, I'll take that as a positive sign!
It's interesting because a lot of people I know online have purchased an imported bench from CPS, but so far you're the first for the Jansen site.
I may be the second, time will tell!

Just a note, mine took awhile (3-4 months) to get as it was on back order … although pre-covid. They were very easy to work with in any case. Very pleasant and forthcoming with info on shipping expectations.

Hi ShiroKuro,
My thoughts - I have no direct knowledge of jansenpianobenches.com, but when any company is formed IMHO, to trade off of someone else's reputation, I don't think incredibly well of them. Sure it is legal, but it isn't very nice.
I have a suggestion. Why not send a private message to Frank Baxter? He runs pianosupplies.com and, at least online, he sticks to Jansen products on the site, but I am certain he has other choices. He pays for all the expenses of hosting PW and what he makes from donations and advertising really do not do much. Why not send a PM or an email and see what he can offer?
I am certain that he would take good care of you and his reputation is unquestioned.
My 2 cents,

Hi Rich, thanks for commenting about this. I have no direct knowledge of jansenpianobenches.com, but when any company is formed IMHO, to trade off of someone else's reputation, I don't think incredibly well of them. Sure it is legal, but it isn't very nice. This is my concern -- if, in fact, the company is "trading off of" Jansen's reputation. But it's not clear to me that that's the case. The website makes it very clear which benches are Jansen's and which are not. And the P. Jansen website also sells non-Jansen benches FWIW. They just don't have as many options of the import models on their site as the JansenPianoBenches website does. This is from their "about" page at https://jansenpianobenches.com/pages/aboutus JansenPianoBenches.com is an official retailer of Jansen piano benches and piano accessories. Selling online since 1996, we are a multi-generational, family-run American company, proudly providing our customers with the highest quality piano benches and piano supplies on the market today. (emphasis is theirs, there's more there if anyone is interested in reading the rest) So, if this "about" info is true, and the JansenPianoBenches website is a legit official Jansen dealer, then I think we're not being fair to them in this thread. If they are not an official Jansen dealer, then that is a huge concern, of questionable ethics, and I think it means that it's not a trustworthy company. In which case, I wouldn't want to buy from them! Re contacting Frank, I will certainly try. But unless he has some options in the sub$400 range, then what I'm really hoping is that JansenPianoBenches is legit because they are the only site I can find that has a bench with the right options at a price that fits my pocketbook. ETA: as I said a few posts up, I emailed the P. Jansen contact info to ask about the connection between their site and the JansenPianoBenches site, so if I hear back, I will share what I learn.

BTW I should add that the website listed as the official company for Jansen benches, https://pljansen.com, does not take online sales orders. So it makes sense that JansenPiano.Benches.com is an official dealer of Jansen artist benches.

So it makes sense that JansenPiano.Benches.com is an official dealer of Jansen artist benches. Oh no. You are correct, ShiroKuro, jansenpianobenches.com IS a Jansen dealer, but a huge number of piano stores in the USA (and Frank himself) deals with Jansen and are official dealers. My problem is that this retailer chose a name intentionally to confuse buyers to think they are dealing with Jansen directly. I have seen it happen many times here on PW. The customer is NOT dealing with Jansen directly (or getting some kind of special pricing). Sorry if I was confusing in my first post. In any case, I wish you the best of luck in choosing a piano bench. I am happy to answer any questions I can, but I do recommend using Frank Baxter if you can.

Ahh, ok, thanks for that clarification Rich! My problem is that this retailer chose a name intentionally to confuse buyers to think they are dealing with Jansen directly. If this is true, then that's a problem.... Their site says they've been selling Jansen's benches online since 1996, when there wasn't a lot of online retailing going on. Is it possible they were the first online dealer of Jansen benches? If so, then it's sort of forgivable, if not, then I think your depiction of them may be more accurate... I just emailed Frank, we'll see if he has any suggestions. The problem is, his catalogue doesn't include any benches under $600, and even if I were buying a Jansen bench, his catalogue doesn't let you choose the longer legs etc. It looks to me like JansenPianoBenches offers the most options of any place online I'm seeing. I would be happy to support Frank, but not at the expense of getting the kind of bench I need, or paying more than twice as much. This shouldn't have to be so complicated!
