Go to the Themed Recital subforum to listen and comment. There are 75 performances (some are medleys, so actually more than 75) to browse.

Have fun!

Thank you so much Sam! 💐

Playing the piano is learning to create, playfully and deeply seriously, our own music in the world.

Thanks, Sam!!

as the real deal— a honest-to-god “Beginner-Beginner”, struggling through the first few weeks— I am so excited to have the opportunity listen to this community recital.

Indeed, I’ve already ordered one book of music after ‘googling’ the titles of some of the lovely pieces people were submitting for this recital. I’m sure more treasures are ahead for me.

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to share some of your favorite beginner pieces, even if you are far beyond that level. It is so much appreciated!

Mary

It was surprisingly difficult to find real beginner pieces that appealed to me. I went back and forth about what to submit. I wanted to do things that a real beginner would play, and thought I would try Christopher Norton, but the pieces I found at that level by him did not excite me. Then I heard about William Gillock, who wrote "Children's Pieces" was back in the mid 20th century. But the ones I found were too difficult for beginners - maybe I just couldn't find anything easy enough. My wife has a big stash of beginner books, so I just raided those - Robert Vandall and Barbara Arens - all stuff at level 1 and 2 I think.

Thank you for organizing and overseeing this! My piece is not only beginner-appropriate, but I definitely played it like a beginner, so anyone who listens will have that to look forward to. sick grin

Still, it’s nice to have an excuse to record myself at various points in my playing.

Off to listen to, and be inspired to practice more by, everyone else.
