hi guys

first post, hope everyone is ok during this pandemic times.

few years ago i had a 61 key keyboard to practice with but gave up after few months and now i would like to get something as close to a piano as possible and the electric piano popped in my mind.

lets get the budget out of the way first, my budget is very, very low at 200 pound. now i realize that most of you will think that is no way enough but i have seen some secondhand for around this price but i just dont know which is a decent one.

The other alternative is the Roland FP-10. It's the smaller version of the FP-30 with the same piano sound simulation but less powerful speakers.

i remembered lookign at the Roland FP-10 but it is quite pricey before, will have another look at them now and see if it has gone down.

Look at Casio Privia models, especially those whose model number end in 50 or 60 (i.e. 160, 350, 360, 750, 760). They are very reliable and have actions that are sufficiently similar to an acoustic piano that you will not suffer from the difference. I played Privias for the first 4 years of piano and am very happy that I did.

what do you think to the alesis or gearformusic brands of piano? they look cheap enough if the ones you posted are still out of my budget.

i have now changed my budget to £400.

i realize that at £200 it has proven difficult.

any recommendation for £400 please?

You should find a used Yamaha P105 / P115, Casio PX-150/ PX-160 for that price.

I'm in Canada, things may be different in the UK.

I had a Yamaha P-125 and it was a decent beginner piano. At £529.00 new it might be a stretch but a used one should fit your budget.

i have only just found out about bluetooth, been looking at the roland fp 10, havent really seen any with bluetooth.

when i had my keyboard, i used to hook it up to my pc with midi files and try to play it at same time, i think that helped me abit.

which one in order please?

polyphony is 192? that is another thing i am after in a piano, more the better for better sound quality.

It doesn't matter, much, which one you get. They're all touch-sensitive and weighted-key. None of them gives you an exact match to the touch or tone of an acoustic piano.

Each of them is close enough so that you can learn on it for several years, before you can honestly say:

... "This instrument is limiting my progress."

Polyphony has very little to do with sound quality. Playing beginner-to-intermediate material, you won't come close to exhausting the polyphony of those instruments.

(All IMHO, of course.)

the only option i can think of right now is to try them out at a shop.

just found out there is a piano shop by me, il see what they have in there.

well the shop only had upright pianos and no digital piano.

been looking on the internet again and now i am leaning more towards the casio px s1000, what do you guys think?

I have a Yamaha P-125. It was a replacement of an older Yamaha keyboard that broke down. The P-125 does not have many sound effects like the DXG-670 with over 600 instrument sounds. The price difference isn't very much. For the price of a DXG-670 without the stand & pedal unit I can get the P-125 with the stand & pedal unit. After using Yamaha for a while, I get used to the action & the sound. If I'm a pro, I'd have an acoustic grand piano at home and a DP for backup.

2 weeks ago I went to a piano store and there were 3 DPs with almost identical prices on display: Roland FP-30, Yamaha P-125 & Casio PX-S3000. Music stand & pedal unit sold separately. Each of these have a lower model that is cheaper with fewer bells & whistles: FP-10, P-45 & PX-S1000. Need to play them side by side to tell the differences.

There is a Casio design flaw relating to the PX-S1000 & S3000 with the black keys lighter than the white keys already discussed in the Digital Pianos section. Someone in the family returned to piano playing after a decade of hibernation bought a Casio DP last year. She didn't say much about her experiences with the instrument. Not going to overemphasize the issue in the final purchase decision.

Be careful with bluetooth as it has some latency. Obviously fine if you are just using it to play along with an audio track, but anything where the could be a delay between your fingers and the sound will not work with bluetooth. For instance, I use Piano Marvel app on my iPad and have it connected by wire (usb) as timing has to be spot on.
