Pardon the silliness, but I was just dropping by and noticed kenny's name on a thread, with a lot of older, recognizable names...Chick, kenny, Cy and others. In 20 years of this version of the forum (and yes, I was on the one before this, with jodi, Peggy, Rich, He-who-shall-not-be named, etc.) I wonder just how many of us are no longer treading on this mortal coil?

I am fairly new, but I have wondered about that too.If members who post regularly pass away,is there a way to know?

You poke them with a stick repeatedly. If they move, they are alive.

Since I've been a member here, (2006) there have been several members I know of who have passed on, which actually caused me some level of emotional bereavement, although I never met them in person. I could name several, but I won't. Those who have been here a while know who they are.

The PW Forums are like a community or sorts, albeit a cyber community, if you will, of like minded individuals who have a common interest. We get to know each other, for better or worse, and when one of us passes on it does cause us to stop and grieve their passing, in our own way.

As for myself, I'm still kicking, but not quite as high as in the past, and still learning to play the piano, and having a ball! Might as well go out happy... smile

Rick

Since most of us know each other only as online "entities" and are not usually known, personally, by other members of this forum, it often happens that when one member passes no one knows about it. The posts simply stop from that member.

That said, there have been a couple of instances over the years I have been here when a passing is noted because an active member has known the deceased outside of this forum and has noted the passing in a post. Then we have the opportunity to remember and recall the member and his/her presence in Piano World.

Regards,

😃 Funny, but no doubt true, or they are involved in a new love or are too busy and are just no longer active members in PW.Of course they will always be piano lovers!)

Last month marked seven years since Minnesota Marty passed on.
Turandot hasn’t logged in for five years, and just went silent AFAIK.

I’ve commented on this topic before, but part of my final affairs is to clean up my digital life, so when I expire one of my girls will log in and post something.

Quite a few people have moved on to other places, like piano oriented Facebook groups and subreddits. There was a mass exodus of techs a few years ago (there are some active tech groups on FB and the PTG has some discussion forums too).

Monica K., who was our first recital admin over in the Adult Beginners Forum, passed away back in 2019. She performed in 55 quarterly online recitals. The recitals are now dedicated to her memory.

She wisely let us know in advance that she was having health problems, so that we were able to seamlessly continue the quarterly recitals. I am now the admin, and we are just about ready to present Recital #64.

Well, I’m pretty new to the forum, but if I’d been around awhile, I’d definitely respond with this:
