If you heard me play you'd wish I was dead. Last month marked seven years since Minnesota Marty passed on. Turandot hasn’t logged in for five years, and just went silent AFAIK. Turandot got run off, didn't he? I found his posts interesting.

Turandot got run off, didn't he? I found his posts interesting. As far as I know, Turandot left of his own accord, and is still a member in good standing, though apparently inactive by choice. He may have been suspended for a week or two by the moderators, but was never "run off" or permanently banned. Of course, I suppose one can be "run off" from PW, without being banned, per-se. He was a very colorful and intelligent character, and articulate as they come. He had a command of the English language like few people I've ever known, although I never knew him personally. He did tell me once, via PM, that some members here made fun of me and laughed and joked about me and my piano playing. So, your playing can't be as bad as mine, Plowboy! Rick

Rick Rick, I have never heard anything even remotely like that and find it strange that he would have told you that. Seems really mean. Was there a constructive reason for him telling you that BS? That is f#@#cking crap. F#*(&CK anyone who said that.

I don't remember all the details as to why Turandot would tell me that, but he did, although he did not mention any names; just said some members had sent him PMs about me making fun of me and my piano playing. Perhaps I shouldn't have mentioned it, but the cat is out of the bag now, and you know what they say about putting the cat back in the bag. No matter. I've received some pretty harsh comments regarding some of my YT music videos. But I've learned that when you post your music on the Internet/social media the critics will come out of the woodwork. However, the positive comments far exceed the nasty remarks. Rick

I am here. I miss Apple*. I miss Marty. I miss Monica K. That is all I can think of at the moment, but there are likely more. IMHO, Turandot was a very articulate guy who enjoyed rooting through posts to seek the "truth within them" (my words, not his). This made for some very interesting conversations that led to me really thinking about the perspective that each member's posts might have and how that might influence what they say and how they say it, myself included. I miss having him here. I have never heard anything even remotely like that and find it strange that he would have told you that. Seems really mean. Oh wait, I forgot!
Jolly - good to see you here, my friend. I really miss your great conversation starters, like THIS thread, for instance.
Cheers,

That is f#@#cking crap. F#*(&CK anyone who said that. For what it is worth I totally agree, Keith. Also, the piano tech, Jerry Groot, and former Kawai dealer, Bear 1. Others I'm sure. And, yes, Apple* had a special place in my heart as well. And, Monica K was among the very first to welcome me to PW, and was the "unofficial Piano World greeter" for many years. Many members here, both alive and past on, have been an inspiration to me. That is why I keep coming back... Rick

So, your playing can't be as bad as mine, Plowboy! Rick I have watched, and enjoyed many of your videos. Your playing is far better than mine. You even have more fun playing than I do, that's what hurts! And I imagine that might be the motivation for your critics, whoever they are. Miserable people hate seeing folks having fun. Just to set the record straight, butchering Bach and Satie brings me much peace of mind.

I do think my greatest asset is my smile, and the ability to express my joy and happiness when I play my pianos. My playing? Not so much. Good thing I have some nice dental work... Rick

Kenny had a Bluthner, a Model 1 if I remember correctly? His posts were therefore of particular interest to me. He decided to train as a piano technician, and sadly stopped posting.

Jolly, You don't know me, 'cause I rarely post, but I've been around (mostly lurking) since the pre-PW-forum days, (usenet? hard to remember at this age) but I've missed your posts. Glad to hear you're still above grass.

I wonder how many people really knew Turandot personally. I think some old timers around here used to call him William (?), which would imply some depth beyond posting. I also heard from another long-time and now long-forgotten member that he was a retired professor of something or other. But who knows? He was very knowledgable and analytical. I enjoyed his posts for that reason. He could also be somewhat caustic at times. He could walk the line right up to a potential banning and dance around it. I'd say he was a worthy sparing partner, but, truth be told, he usually handed me my hat. At the same time, he was objective enough to hand out praise at times, even if he'd made mince meat of you the day before, and/or would later. I didn't like him initially -- I don't remember why -- probably because he introduced himself with the textual equivalent of a roundhouse kick! It seems odd to post about him in the past tense!

We can consider ourselves "here" until we utter (or someone else does) the phrase "Well, there goes the Piano lessons." So bang away, bang away, bang away all.
