Hi guys

Hope this is the right forum for this.
Would it be possible instead of a direct connection to the PC, connect a Roland A49 midi keyboard to a Alesis mixer?

The A49 only has a USB to PC and a 5pin DIN MIDI output
The Alesis mixer (Multimix8 USB) has only line-in for keyboard (2x 6.3 jack for L+R)
I am aware a midi signal is not an audio signal, but the mixer is connected via USB to a PC where the midi signal is processed.

There is nothing on google or youtube about this. There must be more people with similar setups?
What would be the best way to connect them together? (as also have mic and guitar put in and would be nice to be able to use them all together)

Looking forward to some positive replies smile

Hello,

The A49 itself does not produce any audio. So in your case, where does the audio come from when playing on the A49? Why would you want to connect it to the mixer?

Perhaps you mean that your PC runs audio software (a virtual instrument) that you play from the A49. In that case, the audio output from the PC should go to the mixer, either from a built-in sound card, an external USB audio interface, or maybe directly via USB to your mixer if that has an audio interface (DACs) built in.

In none of these cases, you'd need a connection between A49 and mixer.

Hope this helps a bit?

Cheers and happy connections,

HZ

Almost as HZPiano says, but the Roland and Alesis both have USB connectivity. So:

A29 sends Midi data, over its USB cable, to PC.

PC runs VST software ( or other "virtual instrument").

PC sends digital audio from VST, over USB cable, to Alesis mixer.

Mixer converts digital audio to analog audio.

Speakers and headphones plug into mixer.
