Had a similar issue, but the bulge was pointing outside, screws were missing, and some keys didn't work. Also, considering how these things are packaged and that there often is no visible damage in the packaging, I'd rather suspect that someone is saving on repair costs by refurbishing returned units very unprofessionally, then selling them as new units. But that's just a guess. Also made the experience that their authorized technicians seem to be nothing more than guys with electronics experience. Didn't even have MIDI software to test stuff. Only advice I can give: if there is ANYTHING wrong with your new Kawai device, return it immediately, and try until you get a flawless one. And if you get something to their repair guys, make sure they are testing it before you pick it up again. Just assuming that they would do, isn't necessarily enough, esp. with stuff like VPC-1 where you can't just switch it on and play through internal speakers. Another advice I can give: don't buy the last device that's in stock. It has a higher chance to be a returned unit or parts of it.
