The cloth bushings at the back of pedal box that hold the 3 rods controlling the pedals have worn, especially the one for the damper pedal. A technician who I had never used before told me he could not replace it at my house and would need to take the whole lyre back to his shop. This did not make sense to me so I told him no. He also told me that my piano needs 2 days of regulating work yet it does not exhibit any signs of needing regulation (based on a few piano tech’s websites). I own a Schimmel Grand and it has been cared for by piano techs since I bought it in 1988. Comments?

I would probably want to do that kind of stuff in the shop too. It gets a little dirty AND you never know exactly what you're going to run into. A well equipped shop is decidedly for this purpose. Every time I have attempted to fix something in the home when my gut told me I should do it in the shop, I've been sorry I didn't listen to my gut.

It depends on the piano, but if I have to do it in a hurry, which is often the case, I will at least get started on site. The last one that I could not finish needed the entire bearings replaced, which I had to make. Even so, I was able to jury-rig it together until I could get back to it, and I was able to install the new bearings on site. I have another part that I have made for that piano that I will need to get installed sometime soon, to be installed on site.
