Hi Kawai James,

I did reach out using the webform and on the Kawai page and am in email contact, but I don't think I'll be getting specific info about my order.

You don't believe you'll receive information about your order?

I don't believe the person that I'm in touch with will have access to customer level information. Would you know of a more direct channel to get specific information? So far my dealer hasn't given me a timeline either...

Hi, I’ve enjoyed my ca99 for 2 years and now the spring of my Legato pedal broke in half. Is that something I can repair myself? Can I order a new spring somewhere? I haven’t found any spare parts on the Kawai page.

Thanks
Mario

Update: Just had an idea. I never use the other pedals so I swapped the spring with the one from the left pedal (they look the same, the middle one is a little different).

To take the pedal unit apart is fairly straight forward and can easily be done diy. I'd still be interested in a new spring to repair now the left pedal wink

Take the old spring (or the new one) to a hardware store. They usually have a good selection of springs and you may get lucky.

Page 15 of the owner's manual indicates that the three pedals have different spring tensions to simulate the feel of a grand piano. You may want to get the proper spring from Kawai and put them back in order.

Acoustic pianos have pedal spring tensions that vary DRASTICALLY, even between the same make. Unless Kawai is going by some standard (which would be a mystery to me, since the NV-10 sustain pedal is extremely heavy compared to, say, a GX-2), I wouldn't consider the manufacturer's default weighting as all that important in simulating "what a real grand feels like," because there isn't a universal standard here. Also, technicians will at a customer's request swap out the springs for ones with different rates to better suit the needs/taste of the customer, and they do this all the time.

At least as it relates to the sostenuto/sustain pedals, the pedal weight is usually determined entirely by the spring rate, and not by the mechanism of the back action. So I would consider this one 99% personal preference, if one wishes to change it around.

Ok thanks guys, I wasn’t aware of these things. I’ll send my dealer an email and contact kawai if they can’t help me.

I ordered a CA-79 the first week of December and it was delivered at the end of February. It was originally expected to be delivered in December, but we didn't really believe it when they said that. Honestly I was surprised based on discussions here that it was delivered only 3 months later. A year seems really crazy. You gave them a deposit and it's still taking a year? I'm in NJ, USA, as was the dealer. We did call pretty often especially through February because they kept saying it was "on the truck". lol

Thanks amykpiano, and everyone here for sharing your timelines. I'm still in the dark on my order but this has given me some context. I've found units in nearby US states (even in stock) and other colors have been arriving in nearby Canadian locations, but are snapped up very quickly. Also, the production of ca59/79 has been suspended even further and new orders are being promised even later now, possibly October if not later.

In theory, backorders such as mine were produced prior to the suspension so mine "should" arrive before October but after this long wait and knowing that other dealers have received units.... I'm not really sure what to expect.

Fender Rhodes sound

Fiddled with it for a while but couldn't quite get it, so:

Has anyone managed to get their CA99 (or 79) sound reasonably close to a Fender Rhodes?

I guess starting from one of the digital piano sounds, and then smartly VT your way to the goal should ultimately be possible - but I just can't figure it out by myself frown

Any help?

Due to COVID lockdowns and limited supply, I hadn't been able to get to a dealer for the last year or so. Finally made it to a dealer in mid-March and trialed two of the brands I was interested in.

Made a decision on the day without knowing stock levels (just figured I'd be on a wait list for either one). Surprise, surprise, the dealer had what I wanted on a container ship, expected within a few weeks, and no one else on the list. THEN we had about
meter of rain and the paddock to my studio was impassable so that caused delivery delays. Fingers crossed it arrives today!

An ebony CA99.

Wow, that's a lovely gesture too - nice one.

Did anyone noticed as well that the boot up time is much longer after the new update?
It is now around 45 seconds.

I've never timed it but I don't really care. If I needed to play something that quickly the keyboard works a lot faster than the touchscreen.

Yes, it is longer. Used to be about 30 seconds. The design forces us to choose a sound that's similar to the default to make it less noticeable as it transitions from the default to the custom sound.
