Hi All,

I want to change Midi Out on my Yamaha P-85 piano to act like a Midi Thru. Is that possible?

e.g.,

I have a midi keyboard (midi OUT) going into the midi IN of my p-85 Yamaha Electric Piano.

The P-85 midi Out is going into a computer and playing midi sounds

However, when I play the other midi keyboard, all it does is play the Yamaha piano sounds and does not play the computer midi sounds.

The only other option is a double adaptor to do two Midi Ins on the computer but I want to avoid that.

Thanks in advance, Arthur

There are also "MIDI merge" devices if you don't want to have two USB-MIDI adapters plugged into the computer.

The other answer is somewhere deep in the P-85 User's Manual. Maybe it's possible, maybe not. Were you able to find the User's Manual?

It looks like the P-85 supports MIDI In/Output. That suggests no midi thru feature. Could possibly try a 'midi thru box' ---- aka midi splitter.

After a cursory reading of the manual, I do not think what the OP wants to do is possible with the P-85. Remember it is a basic instrument and this MIDI-through functionality is not as "basic". I doubt it is available, even my ES-8, which is a little less "basic" does not have this functionality as far as I can tell from from reading the manual.

I agree with SouthPark. A MIDI thru box (MIDI solutions, Kenton, Miditech…) have one input for your keyboard and two outputs (or more) : one for the P85, and one for the computer.
