Maybe someone knows of a Yamaha/Disklavier forum where I could ask this question, but until then, hoping someone can shed some knowledge:

Does anyone with a Disklavier know what is needed to activate the "remote lesson" functionality, which I understand is kind of a point to point connection between two Disklavier-equipped pianos?

Yamaha and Bosendorfer both advertise it as a major feature of the Disklavier, so it's kind of curious that it's not easy to find.

Specifically, it looks like something you can select in the Enspire app, from this video at 5:38:

But my app doesn't show the feature when I connect to the piano.

Hugh sung has done this YouTube video. If the video doesn’t help, you can contact him through Cunningham Pianos

Thanks, I saw that video (as well as the actual lesson Frederick Chiu gave in that session, here.

I'd love to know if there some setting to activate the feature, or if anyone has actually used it with their piano (my guess is no).

I don't see that option in the Enspire app as well. I can ask someone at the store where I purchased it from about it. It's an option I'm almost certain I would never use though.

I don't think it'll be something I use a lot either, but I do want to understand it better, and see if it's possible to do things such as hook up to a real-time MIDI signal and control the piano from a remote keyboard (maybe that's a function that already exists without the point-to-point connection?).

I talked to the sales guy on the phone. You need to put the piano in maintenance mode and enable the option. You'll need the serial number on the disklavier box. We tried getting my piano into maintenance mode (holding that button in for 4 seconds, blue flashing light), but mine wouldn't get into that mode. So I'll need a tech to come out and check. You might have better luck.

But once enabled, we could then play on each others pianos remotely ;0

OK, I was able to get into the service menu. Once there, go to option 6. You can enable there. You will need the DKC number you see on the white sticker on the controller box.

So remote lesson is now available.

That totally worked! Thanks for coming to the rescue, bSharp!

I thought I'd bump this rather than create a new thread. I'm not associated with Cunningham in any way, but noticed that this event is scheduled for today (June 6, 2022, 7:30pm EST) and thought it might be of interest to some:

Quote
TONIGHT at 7:30 pm EST, the University of Florida International Piano Festival will be hosting pianist Hugh Sung in a special remote Yamaha Disklavier Recital and Masterclass. Two Yamaha Disklavier pianos will be connected over the Internet between Pennsylvania and Florida, allowing performers in each state to perform on each other's pianos. In this livestream event, Hugh will be performing works by Chaminade, Mel. Bonis, Griffes, Respighi, Ravel and Chopin, and then conducting a remote masterclass with participants of the Festival.

Looks to be a Youtube livestream:
