Hi guys, I use a 2i2 to record my piano and have some fun with my DAW… I never had a chance to see the benefits of a DP with a built-in audio interface...

Could anyone explain to me how a DP with a built-in audio interface (like RD-2000 or FP-90x) works?

I mean, do you need to install any drivers on your PC like is for a regular audio interface?

Can you control the settings of the built-in audio interface from your PC? (like happens with a regular audio interface)

And so can you use the built-in audio interface of your DP for mixing and mastering with your DAW?

Computer will see your DP as a USB device.
Whatever audio interface features the DP has, its USB driver must expose this functionality.
And you would have to install this driver (like Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver) to have it recognized by OS, unless the OS comes with driver for it (like it does for many popular USB devices).

I do not know about FP90X, but RD2000 requires a specific driver.

It's pretty much the same as your audio interface, except you hear the instrument's internal voices as well, and you can record them digitally.

That said, there are no usable mic preamps like your audio interface. You can easily hook any kind of mic to your interface (dynamic or condenser) and record it with low noise levels, that's not the case for the DP audio interfaces.

You also usually have a tiny mixer interface in the OS settings of your PC for your audio interface but you don't have these in a keyboard.

Headphones (at least in my MOTIF XF) can't drive any headphones above 80Ohms or so. I have 250Ohms headphones and my MOTIF needs an amp for that.

Thanks for your replies guys!
I can get that the reply for all my answers is yes.. that is good!
Now, assuming I will get a DP with a USB built-in audio interface what am I going to do with my 2i2.. I mean, make sense to have two audio interface connceted to a DAW? (I don't even know if is possible), what benefits am I going to get with that?
Is it recommended have a DP (with a built-in a.i.) straight connected to the PC?

keep your 2i2 plugged into your computer via usb

in addition, plug your keyboard-with-interface into your computer via usb

now your 2i2 is completely freed up to plug anything else into it, and to run speakers / headphones out of it
