Hello everyone
What are good 20 min. piece to play in the 2nd round of a competition?
I was thinking of Chopin sonata no. 2. But if there any other ideas I would be very happy to know!
Thank you!

More information would be helpful:
1. Which competition?
2. What is your level? Are you a piano performance major somewhere?
3. Why are you asking about the second round?
4. What are the requirements for the second round? Do you already have additional pieces planned for the second round?

Also, what have you chosen for the other rounds?

Billions of other possibilities. smile

There's no shortage.
Are you really at a loss, or kinda mostly wanting some opinions on that Chopin?

1. Busoni! I passed the selection!!
2. Yes, I am majoring.
3. For the second round, one should perform about 30 min. I will play Busoni-Nine Variations on a Chopin Prelude.
So 20 min. free program.. it's difficult for me.. cause I have big pieces such as Gaspard de la nuit or Moment Musicaux (Rach)...
I wonder if I should play small pieces

IMO, you should consult with your teacher.

Let's see how long it takes before somebody here actually suggests a specific piece.

.......without at least hearing more, for all the mentioned reasons.

It'd be great to hear a sample of OP's playing as well. Not all repertoires are as effective for all pianists.

(among other things) smile

As it is, all we could do is post pieces that we ourselves like or might choose from among the many hundreds of great choices, which would be no more than a shot in the dark for a particular person.
There's no shortage. We wouldn't have any good idea about where it might be good to start.

For example, a rarely played 20th century piece could be a refreshing choice that would be favorable for one contestant, but be a disastrous choice for another.
