Been a little while since I’ve posted.

Question pertains to moving a small grand, 5’2” thereabouts, from southern New Hampshire to Boston. Would anyone have recommendations or connections to knowledge of a reputable company who do fair costings for a fairly straightforward move in the North-Eastern US? Local movers with experience would also be considered of course. Walter Piano Transport’s come up in forum searches, I’ll give them an email. Assume four or five steps either end of the move.

Also curious what a ballpark pricing would be for such a move. I was quoted a fair bit beyond $1000, which is very close to the value of the instrument. It seems rather excessive, but don’t have experience with this.

Many thanks in advance.

I was quoted anywhere from $3k to 5k to ship a grand cross country. So $1-1.5k seems reasonable for state to state shipping. A lot of the cost will depend on the number of stairs at the origin and destination.

For that distance, it sounds reasonable to me. Spent $500 in-state local in New England with minimal stair navigation.

I have used Piano Movers, Inc. in Nashua for many years. They go frequently from NH to Boston. Fair pricing (not the lowest...but you don't want that anyway) and never a problem.

Also Allegro Piano Movers. They're in MA. Either choice is good.

I think the precise number of stairs and size of the piano are important factors. It's not one price fits all.

One more data point for you - I moved a MH BB from southern NH to the Boston area three days ago and used Allston Piano Movers (now part of Gentle Giant Movers). They were really good (definitely the best of the five piano movers I’ve used in the past).

Thanks all! This information is super helpful. I’ll give them all a contact. Seems that the price given is pretty reasonable.

Indeed I’m trying to get the information of the number of steps at the pick-up location. A bit hard since I’m out of the country at the moment but will go there in-person in July, I’ve shot the owners a message and asked for photos in advance so let’s see. Every moving company has their own calculations on steps and size range for pricing as well.

Generally speaking a "sight unseen" quote is going to be higher so as to allow for "stuff". Final figure depends on actual fact.
