My velocity curve looks similar to yours.
I noticed that it was too easy to play fortissimo and tripple forte, so I had to make the curve steep at the end.
Otherwise I had random loud notes jump out quite often.

Hi,

thanks and greet demos from jdg78.

With VSL Synchron D-274 i can choose my Steinway tone for each situation :), with the several mic(s) and i don't need to add artificial reverb.

the room-mix mic(s) channel is very great to mix with some close mic(s)

With standard version VSL Synchron D-274 : Room-MIX + condenser + Velocity curve to have the real exponential curve of a pianist (the robot was great but to linear)
With Full edition VSL Synchron D-274: Room-MIX + condenser + Ribbon + Velocity curve to have the real exponential curve of a pianist (the robot was great but to linear)

I will try the VSL Blüthner demo this week, too.

Regards,

Olivier F.

Hi,

Changed my velocity curve for N1X today, even better smile next upcoming video soon smile

here new N1X curve :

{
"id" : "velocityMap",
"data" : "[[0.0,1.0],[0.248521,0.748201],[0.502958,0.654676],[0.753452,0.405275],[0.885602,0.199042],[1.0,0.0]]"
}

it's now the Graal.

Steel sometimes, use Pianoteq with Synchron for Sympathetic Resonance (Combined in Logic Pro)

But the VSL Steinway Sound is better, better than all Pianoteq Steinway 7.5.4.

By favortie mic(s) settings : RIBBON at +6, Condenser at - 3, Room mix at -3, just only this 3 channel and it's magical.

i'm in love.

Regards,

O.

Broke down with 4 days to go on the sale. Disappointed in myself.

Got the Standard version of the Steinway.

That gives me the 280 as the main then Steinway and Garritan depending on the music I am playing.

So, the day has finally come. All my demos have run out. Le sigh. I’m kinda gonna miss those other Synchron pianos, but I’m glad I’ll be back to focusing on just one, so I’m not spending most of my practice time messing with settings. laugh

Since I was focusing primarily on the grands (Bosendorfer 280VC, Steinway, Yamaha CFX, Bosendorfer Imperial), I decided to try spend the last day of the demo working with the uprights.

I’ll say this, I don’t know that I’ll ever be crazy about uprights, but these were pretty good. The Bosendorfer upright is pretty good. It doesn’t have the super sparkly/crystalline tone of the Bosendorfer grands, and has a more level tone, but it was pretty lovely. The bass notes don’t have that resounding bell like bass of the grands either, except toward the very low ranges.

The Schimmel was much more pronounced and a harder tone. Less beautiful base, but still some very good tones and sounds. It was very presentable as an instrument as well.

I also did kind of like the interplay of tones and sounds from the boxed-in nature of the upright.

A large part of it is the very improved microphones that have been used in the newer Synchron pianos. They’ve started using sphere/binaural microphones and the smaller room. You get to hear a lot more of the beautiful interplay of tones.

Overall, it’s been very fun testing these. I’m certain I’ll be sticking with the Steinway, but the others are all great options.

Re: the uprights, my thoughts are very similar - they are both really well done, but I doubt I would use them much. Maybe if I played more contemporary style music or was a singer/songwriter it would make more sense, but for the type of classical repertoire I like to play, I can’t imagine reaching for an upright over the Steinway or Imperial grand.

Still, between the two of them I really liked the Bosendorfer - it has a very lovely, intimate tone with beautiful resonances.

The new 1904 German (I believe it’s sampled from a Bechstein, not Schimmel), also has an appealingly clear tone and nice character, but it’s also extremely close in sound to another VST I have (NI Gentleman), which is similarly characterful, but which I rarely play.

However, for anyone specifically looking for an upright sound, either one of these would be a great option.

Really appreciate the demo+sale combo. I end up getting the standard version of Bosendorfer Imperial. The tone is just too gorgeous.

One feature request, in case Paul is reading this, is to have a more lenient mics loading check. Currently, for faster loading time & simpler connectivity, I keep close/mid mics in the internal mac ssd, and main/ambient mics in an external ssd, so that for my mostly used preset (close & mid only) I don't have to plug in the external ssd. However, I find that it simply wouldn't load anything when the external ssd is not plugged even though my preset does not require anything from external ssd.

What I want to suggest is to make it nonblocking when some volume paths are invalid, and keep loading whatever are available in valid paths. For the missing mics, the player can issue a warning message. Thanks for your consideration!
