Yamaha is by far the most popular brand so most offers would be that brand around me. Budget: $2K for a new one (hoping to get is used for $1K).
Thanks.
It's not clear if you are only considering slabs, but I would try the following as upgrades to what you have, in no particular order and probably all within or close to your budget new:
Yamaha P515
Roland FP90
Kawai MP7
Casio PX-S3100
Thanks!
the Casio costs 50% of the rest?
It could take me a year to find someone selling any of these but such it is with musical instruments...

I don't know why the Casios are so much cheaper. I've only played them briefly in a store but I liked the action, the sound was decent and it seemed well made to me. You'd expect Casio would know how to make sound systems and speakers, maybe they can leverage the sound components from their other products to keep the price of the keyboards down.

I play my friend's ES110 all the time so I'm pretty familiar with it. Actions are like shoes, everyone has to find what fits, but I think you'll find any of those in the list to be closer to an acoustic than your ES110. There used to be more options for slabs without speakers, which saved weight and money. But the trend seems to be including speakers on everything.

casio's marketing game is weak. that's why they're cheaper. in a sea of essentially commodities, marketing makes the most difference. this is the same reason for stagnation, the money is not going to the manufacturer with the most innovation, it's going towards the manufacturer with the best marketing. Ala yamaha.

if the manufacturers are not incentivized to innovate, the products stagnate, and that's why we still have these trash tier 256 Megabyte piano samples selling in $5000 pianos.

Click bait.

Yes, the black keys are light, but,

In practice you will likely not notice it.

And in actuality it was probably a design decision in the part of Casio since they have short keys and so they get harder to push as you go toward the fall board more so then other models.

So Casio probably made it lighter to account for this factor.

And Casio has other actions.

I personally would go play it to see if it an issue for you or not.

I had more issue with the texture of the keys and the short keys.

It's a legitimate concern depending on the person's play style. it's not as devastating as portrayed though.

The MP7 seems to be the best choice by reviews but it could be impossible to get in the used market... I might just call it off now and live with my choice of DP. It's so hard to upgrade when you have to find a buyer and a seller.

An ES920 would be a good upgrade, a VPC1 or MP11SE would do you until you upgrade to a hybrid. The MP11SE is really very nice indeed. I would upgrade to the MP11SE but for having played a hybrid and now that's my longer term plan. The ES110 is good for the price but against more expensive boards has limited appeal ie, for those who want an ultra light slab for the road ie, gigging.

Having played the RHC action, I can say it's nice but not quite the action to play Chopin on.

For me, the ES120 is the upgrade from the ES110.

Let's meet in the middle and call it a side-grade. downgrade in value and pedal though.

I found an offer for a KAWAI MP11SE but it's too far to go test it. Is it worth the risk for $2142? The listing says as-new but I feel like the price should be 50% the moment the box from the store is opened.
It sells for $3422 new where I live.

Personally I would not buy a used instrument without testing it first. The MP11SE is a great instrument but you're paying a lot of money for the sound engine which is something you originally said you didn't care about. I know the MP7 and MP11 have slightly different actions, but I'm not sure how much different they are and the price difference is pretty large.

It could take a long time to find a specific model around here... There are only 2 Kawais for sale...
Btw, I read there's a next generation MP coming in a year or two, so the price should drop more... But then it's always dropping and DPs become obsolete fast, which is why I bought the cheap ES110 in the first place...

Unless adealer is involved, you'll get no warranty with this. But you might get him down to $1800 which is more than a decent deal imo. The piano action and sounds are very highly rated here, so if you like a bit of a gamble . . . smile

Many of the regulars here who gush on expensive kawai, talk like they sell this stuff. color me suspicious.

RHC is Perfection, RH3 is good except for the uneven letoff, the rest, so-so. crazy

Understood, it's not just your area, there's a shortage of all kinds of new and used things, not just pianos. The MP11SE is a great instrument but it's a stage piano, so you're paying a lot for the functionality you need when you plug into a professional sound system on stage and aren't using your own VST at home. But if that's what's available and you like it, it's a really nice keyboard.
